Thank you, Pat McAfee, for that delicious helping of crow I had to eat

.

On Thursday, I wrote a scathing rebuke of Pat McAfee. I thought he had sold his soul to the powers at ESPN and caved to network executive pressure to jettison Aaron Rodgers to the heaps of history of his show for this season. Everything McAfee said this week led me to believe that was the case. It led everyone to believe that was the case.

Embarrassingly, I was completely and utterly wrong.

After Rodgers’s comments about Jimmy Kimmel being linked to known pedophile Jeffrey Epstein on McAfee’s show this week, the NFL quarterback was heavily criticized. Rodgers, who has been persona non grata for comments about COVID-19, vaccines, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, came under intense scrutiny from many in the media. On Wednesday, it appeared McAfee placated this outrage when he announced Rodgers would no longer be on his show “this season.”

“There will be a lot of people who are happy with that, myself included, to be honest with you. The way it ended, it got really loud,” McAfee said on Wednesday. “I am happy that he’s not going to be in my mentions going forward, which is great news.”

But this was before the revelation that McAfee was clearly a sinister, trolling god who apparently will do whatever he wants on his show. This is because the very next day, Rodgers appeared on his show. He spoke about the retirements of University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. It was surprising and, admittedly, a very entertaining deepfake by McAfee.

Not that McAfee cares what I had to say in any way; however, I have to retract my statement about him being a corporate shill. He clearly did not roll over. McAfee is an entertainer, and his stunt with Rodgers was entertaining. So, in upholding my journalistic integrity, I admit I was wrong. He completely fooled me, and, as a result, I will enjoy this fresh helping of crow for tonight’s dinner.

Pat McAfee fooled me. I think he fooled everyone. Good for him for doing so.
