Pennsylvania Democrats’ resolution honoring Taylor Swift is a waste of resources

Pennsylvania’s House Democrats are not serious people. At a time when the state’s residents are suffering from inflation, rampant violent crime, an opioid epidemic, an overdose crisis, and vast educational opportunity gaps, among other issues, Pennsylvania’s Democrats are wasting time passing legislation about singer Taylor Swift. It’s just the latest example that the left-wing elected officials are out of touch with reality and do not genuinely care about helping the state’s residents.
House Resolution 282 is contemporary superficial political appeasement; it’s the modern-day “bread and circuses.” The resolution recognized “2023 as the ‘Taylor Swift Era’ in Pennsylvania in celebration of Ms. Swift’s recent selection as Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year and acknowledgment of her positive impact on Pennsylvania’s economy, voter registration numbers, consumer protections, and pro-labor practices.” The impetus for this was based on the fact that Swift was originally from Berks County in Pennsylvania, located about 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
OATH OF OFFICE: DID BIDEN FULFILL HIS PROMISE TO RESTORE THE ECONOMY?
Kate Collins, the chairwoman of Pennsylvania’s Downingtown Republicans, noticed this complete waste of time. She also acknowledged the lack of gravitas by the state’s House Democrats.
“It’s baffling that the PA House is fixated on declaring 2023 the ‘Taylor Swift Era’ amidst critical issues like inflation and crime,” Collins said. “This tilt towards pop culture nods over addressing the genuine hardships faced by Pennsylvanians is a misstep. Our state deserves leaders who are committed to tackling real problems with effective solutions.”

Pennsylvania’s officials were not elected to go to the state’s capital in Harrisburg and engage in meaningless acts like this. Try telling a father whose son passed away from drug abuse that Pennsylvania’s Democrats wasted time and taxpayer money on HR 282. Or notify parents whose children attend school in a failing district that Taylor Swift was being honored. Such people don’t care about heralding the affluent pop music singer. The overwhelming majority of voters in the state do not care if Taylor Swift was honored or if 2023 is the “Taylor Swift Era.”
Politicians are elected to solve problems, not pontificate about celebrities and pass meaningless resolutions. Do some real work on anything that will address some of the state’s many problems. It’s time for Pennsylvania’s Democrats to grow up and put the toys away, not genuflect to entertainers.
