The ACLU’s alternative border reality

Here in the real world, our southern border has been a complete catastrophe ever since President Joe Biden was sworn into office.

And on Day One of his presidency, Biden ended the successful Remain in Mexico program, created loopholes to President Donald Trump’s use of Title 42 as an immigration enforcement tool, and made it all but impossible for ICE agents to deport anyone not convicted of a major felony.

THE BIDEN BORDER CRISIS EXPLAINED

The results of Biden policies are exactly what any honest and intelligent person would predict: record numbers of immigrants crossing the border, record numbers of illegal immigrants escaping capture, and record numbers of immigrants dying on the southern border.

None of these facts, however, made it into the Washington Post’s reporting on “Why the immigration debate is only going to get more intense.” For the Washington Post reporters on Capitol Hill, the actual human misery caused by Biden’s border policies isn’t worth mentioning. All that matters, as the use of Title 42 as an immigration enforcement tool is about to end, is that “its end could spur a rush of migrants to the southern border, giving Republicans another reason to go after Biden.”

A humanitarian crisis is about to get worse on the southern border, and the best the Washington Post can manage is “Republicans pounce!”

The funniest part of the story, though, is the following quote from an ACLU lawyer who is suing to end the use of Title 42.

“If you close the border for so long and back people up, of course there’s going to be chaos for a little while,” said Lee Gelernt, the ACLU’s lead lawyer in the case.

When was the border closed exactly?

During Biden’s first full year in office, a record-high 2.1 million illegal immigrants were arrested crossing the southern border, most of them then released into the United States. During Biden’s second full year in office, almost 2.6 million illegal immigrants will be arrested crossing the southern border, most of them then released into the U.S.

These are two consecutive years of record-high numbers of illegal immigrants being arrested and then released into the U.S. On what planet does that count as a “closed” border?
