The country is headed in a very bad direction because the future of the Democratic Party is far more sympathetic to terrorists than the current iteration.

Most of the polling on Israel and Hamas offers reasons to be optimistic about the state of the country. Even with the partisan divisions that wreak havoc on other topics, most of the country is uniformly on the side of Israel after it has once again been attacked by antisemitic terrorists. But young Democrats are not, with 69% of those under the age of 35 disapproving of President Joe Biden supporting Israel’s right to defend itself in the face of Hamas’s murderous Oct. 7 attack.

A WELCOME TURN RIGHT IN ARGENTINA

Along those lines, 74% of Democrats younger than 35 sympathize with the Palestinians more than the Israelis, who just 16% sympathize with more. But that 74% aren’t sympathizing with the Palestinians more because they are being used as human shields by Hamas, which does not care about them and finds them more useful as corpses for propaganda. They are sympathizing with Palestinians because they view Israel, which just had 1,200 civilians massacred by Hamas and is the victim of constant attempts by terrorists to destroy it, as the aggressor.

This is evident on college campuses, where “pro-Palestine protests” very, very quickly turned into antisemitic mobs. These young Democrats are not just “sympathizing” with Palestinians; they are chanting genocidal phrases such as “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” which calls for the elimination of Israel. They are harassing Jewish students and targeting buildings such as Cornell University’s Center for Jewish Living.

Again, it is undeniable by any basic moral standard that Israel is the victim here. If Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist organizations quit trying to kill Israelis, there would be no conflict. It is Palestinian terrorists, not Israel, that are standing in the way of peace, and yet young Democrats find themselves mad at the victim here, accusing Israel of genocide and ethnic cleansing for daring to defend itself against antisemitic terrorists.

While most elected Democrats find themselves on the right side of this topic by backing Israel, it is the younger progressive members who are sympathizing with the terrorists. Those members, such as Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MN), may be the minority now, but poll after poll shows that the coming generation of Democrats side with them in sympathizing with Palestinian terrorists over the civilians those terrorists want to murder.

This is a fact with which Democrats are going to have to reckon, sooner rather than later. The party is headed in a direction that is bad for the country, one consumed by hate in the same way today’s version tries to project onto its political opponents. How do we think the country will fare once these terrorist-sympathizing younger Democrats finally take over the party’s positions of power?
