China exposes California’s moral corruption

California Democrats spent billions over the past decade on dozens of programs to solve the state’s homelessness crisis, only to see more homeless people on the street than ever. Then, overnight, many of the homeless suddenly disappeared.
Turns out the solution to homelessness, at least in Democratic-controlled San Francisco, is a simple visit by a genocidal dictator. When China’s Xi Jinping meets with President Joe Biden in the city by the bay, unlike most tourists who visit, he won’t see a single tent. They’ve all been cleared out.
“I know folks are saying, ‘Oh, they’re just cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming to town,’” Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) said at a press conference last week. “That’s true because it’s true.”
What a refreshing moment of honesty from the man currently pretending not to be trying to replace Biden on the top of the Democratic ticket. “I mean any time you put on an event,” Newsom continued, “I mean you have people over your house you’re going to clean up the house; you’re going to make sure the kids make their beds.”
The event in question is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which started Monday and runs through Friday. In addition to the United States and China, APEC’s 21 members include Japan, Russia, and Indonesia. It accounts for nearly 50% of all global trade and 40% of global population. More than 20,000 CEOs and heads of state are expected to visit San Francisco this week.
No wonder California Democrats suddenly stopped pretending to care for the homeless.
“This is the third time they kicked us out,” Michael Hudson, one of San Francisco’s homeless, told a local television station. “And this time they wouldn’t let us put our tents back up.”
San Francisco has been locked in a legal battle with the American Civil Liberties Union for about a year over the city’s right to clear homeless encampments. But with the president coming to town, the Secret Service designated a “secure zone” that had to be clear of all homeless people. San Francisco police have been taking down tents and throwing people’s belongings in trucks for weeks now.
The homeless are told they can reclaim their property at a specific city shelter, but Hudson doesn’t believe he will ever see his possessions again. Asked what he thought of Biden coming to town, Hudson replied, “It don’t affect me either way. He ain’t done nothing for me.”
Homeless advocates were hoping the APEC summit would include more resources for them and more housing for the homeless, but no new spending or new shelters have been made available. The Democrats who control San Francisco simply told the poor to move on to a different place.
That California Democrats would be so willing to snap their fingers and clear homeless encampments just to impress some rich guy would be bad enough. That they are doing it for an authoritarian kleptocrat like Xi is even worse, especially considering that no one has done more to put more homeless people on San Francisco’s streets than Xi and his fentanyl-exporting minions.

Not that Biden should linger on fentanyl too much when he does meet with Xi. There are plenty of pressing matters that need to be raised, none more important than communicating to Xi that an attack on Taiwan will absolutely not be tolerated. Biden should also warn Xi to stop the theft of our intellectual property and to stop stealing citizens’ data.
We sincerely wish that Biden succeeds in communicating to Xi that an invasion of Taiwan is not in his interest. We also hope the citizens of San Francisco enjoy their week of vacation from homelessness. Because come next week, the security zones will be gone, and San Francisco will go back to being the cesspool it has become.
