San Francisco leaders have apparently realized that they can clean up their city whenever they feel like it. Unfortunately, that delayed realization proves that they only want to clean it for visits from dictators, not for their actual residents.

Chinese dictator Xi Jinping is heading to San Francisco for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) went and palled around with him in China. The city decided that it was then time to clean up, leading to the widespread removal of homeless encampments and the Bay Area Rapid Transit system “power washing the entire station” and increasing “the frequency of how often we deep clean our train cars.”

BIDEN-XI MEETING: TRUMP REMATCH ANXIETY HAMPERS ECONOMIC COMPETITION WITH CHINA

Now, you may think that San Francisco did this only because Xi was attending and the city wanted to make a good impression on the leader of the genocidal Chinese Communist Party. And you would be … right. As Newsom said, “I mean, anytime you put on an event, I mean you have people over your house, you’re going to clean up the house. You’re going to make sure the kids make their beds.”

Newsom also said: “I know folks are saying, ‘Oh, they’re just cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming to town.’ That’s true because it’s true, but it’s also true for months and months and months prior to APEC, we’ve been having conversations.” So you see, the city hasn’t bothered cleaning up San Francisco over the past several years to make life better for its residents, but it has been talking about it for months. Doesn’t that make those years of stepping over homeless people’s feces and discarded drug paraphernalia seem worth it in hindsight?

Of course, California and San Francisco officials spent “months and months and months” talking about a problem and “having conversations” instead of actually doing anything, right up until a communist dictator was due to visit. Then they were able to quickly and easily clean up the city with little issue. It was so easy (and even only used the city’s standard operating budget, not any additional funds) that it makes you wonder why it couldn’t have been done at any point in the past several years, especially after the quality of life in San Francisco tanked during the pandemic.

This is the pathetic state of California and San Francisco under its Democratic monopoly on power. State and city officials are too lazy to fulfill the most basic functions of government, such as making sure sidewalks are walkable and not flooded with homeless encampments, because they know they will all be reelected regardless of what they do. Yet a visit from a dictator they think is their climate-change ally spurs them into action.

San Francisco leaders and Newsom have proved that they aren’t incompetent, but that they simply don’t care about the people they have been elected to serve.
