It should be an easy question to answer. “Of the six million migrants encountered while trying to illegally enter the country, how many of them are still in the country?”

Well, it’s not an easy question for most people. But it should be an easy question for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

THE BIGGEST QUESTION FOR TONIGHT’S DEBATE

He is the one President Joe Biden appointed to secure our nation’s borders. Whatever other beliefs he may have about the effectiveness of certain enforcement measures, or the ethics of denying migrants entry into our country, at a bare minimum he should be the world’s expert on not only how many illegal immigrants have tried to enter the country since Biden took office, but also how many of those released into the country are still here.

But at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing today, Mayorkas pleaded ignorance on this very question.

“Secretary Mayorkas,” Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND) began, “How many people have entered the country illegally, crossed the southern border, since the Biden administration took office?”

“Senator, it is over 6 million encounters at our southern border,” Mayorkas replied.

“And how many of those 6 million,” Hoeven pressed, “are still in the country?”

“Uh, senator, I can get you that information,” Mayorkas replied.

After pressing for just this year’s numbers, which Mayorkas also didn’t have, Hoeven pressed again, “You came to the hearing today and you don’t have those numbers? You are the head of DHS and you came to this hearing today without those numbers?”

“That is correct,” Mayorkas replied.

This is simply unacceptable. This purposeful ignorance on an issue so vital to our national security is an impeachable offense by itself. The Biden administration does not want anyone to know how many illegal immigrants they are letting stay in our country.

This number should be posted every month publicly, along with the number of border encounters. But it’s not. And that is by design. The Biden administration is trying to hide even the most basic facts of the border crisis they created from the public.

By the way, the entire reason Mayorkas was testifying today was to ask Congress for another $14 billion to bail out the Biden administration’s failed border policies. Instead of using this money to stop letting illegal immigrants into the country, Biden plans to do the opposite: spend more money processing illegal immigrants into the country faster and send more money to cities to house, clothe, and feed those already here.

When it comes to asking for more money to keep his open border policies working, Mayorkas has $14 billion memorized. When asked how many illegal immigrants are still in the country thanks to his open border policies, suddenly Mayorkas’s mind goes blank.

Why any senator trusts Mayorkas, especially on immigration, is a complete mystery.
