Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) said it is a “lie” to claim Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is calling for genocide in Israel. After a brief review of Tlaib’s comments, this fact check confirms that Bush’s pants are on fire.

This started with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) tweeting, “Rashida Tlaib is calling for the genocide of the Jewish people.” Bush responded by saying, “This is a lie. This rhetoric is dangerous and needs to stop. This endangers the life of Rashida and Palestinians standing up for their liberation everywhere.”

KEEP ISRAEL, UKRAINE, AND THE SOUTHERN BORDER SEPARATE

So what did Tlaib actually say? Tlaib dropped an advertisement attempting to shame President Joe Biden for supporting Israel against the terrorists who slaughtered 1,400 civilians on Oct. 7. In that ad, Tlaib promoted the phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” That phrase refers to the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. That land is Israel, and that rallying cry has been used by Hamas for decades to refer to the elimination of Israel.

As we have seen in countless Hamas terrorist attacks, including the massacre of 1,400 civilians on Oct. 7, that means slaughtering any Israelis who reside in Israel. Worse still, Tlaib no doubt knows the implications of the phrase, which makes it more despicable that she has tried to whitewash it to make it an “aspirational call for freedom” and human rights.

If you want to quibble, Tlaib was not necessarily calling for “the genocide of the Jewish people,” just the ones who happen to live in Israel. Given that Tlaib has ludicrously claimed that Israel is an apartheid state that is carrying out ethnic cleansing, tripled down on a Hamas lie that Israel bombed a hospital when it was the Palestinians who did that, and on her first day in Congress displayed a map labeling Israel as “Palestine,” what exactly Tlaib’s “aspirations” are regarding the Jewish state has been made very clear.

Tlaib is an antisemite. She is a terrorist sympathizer. She routinely lies about the state of Israel on behalf of antisemitic Hamas terrorists. Bush’s pathetic attempts to shield Tlaib from all criticism by claiming it is dangerous to acknowledge reality are nothing more than a way to excuse Tlaib’s vicious antisemitism. After all, if Republicans recognizing Tlaib’s antisemitism is “dangerous” and “endangers” her life, what impact does Tlaib’s antisemitic, pro-terrorist rhetoric have on Jews across the country? Bush doesn’t say because she doesn’t care.

This is all cynical partisan politics by Bush and her Democratic colleagues to shield one of their own and paint Republicans as the problem. Blackburn is right to disregard it and call out Tlaib’s hateful rhetoric for what it is, and House Republicans should find their spines and follow through with a censure.
