Fetterman is putting his fellow Democrats to shame on Israel

Democratic leaders in Washington, D.C., are already losing their resolve to support Israel in its war against a terrorist organization that slaughtered Israeli civilians and uses Palestinians as human shields. Somehow, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is the only prominent Democrat with a spine and a moral conscience on the issue.
Fetterman, whose brief term in the Senate has been defined by health and cognitive problems, is essentially the lone moral beacon for national Democrats on Israel’s war of self-defense against Hamas.

“Now is not the time to talk about a ceasefire,” Fetterman said on Oct. 18. “We must support Israel in their efforts to eliminate the Hamas terrorists who slaughtered innocent men, women, and children. Hamas does not want peace, they want to destroy Israel. We can talk about a ceasefire after Hamas is neutralized.”
On Thursday, he reiterated his support as pro-Hamas activists continued to smear Israel by accusing it of targeting civilians. “They are not targeting civilians,” Fetterman said. “They never have, they never will.” He also said that he thinks a “pause” in the fighting may be needed, but again correctly noted that there should be worries that a pause would allow Hamas to regroup and rearm.
It is that easy to be on the correct and righteous side in a conflict where one side is antisemitic terrorists and the other is trying to stop mass stabbings, shootings, and missile launches by antisemitic terrorists. And yet Senate newcomer John Fetterman appears to be the only prominent Democrat who can clear this low bar.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), the second-highest ranking Senate Democrat, has called for a ceasefire, which means he wants Israel to let the terrorists regroup and rearm after those terrorists slaughtered 1,400 civilians. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) doesn’t quite know what he wants, just that he wants Israel to respond less seriously and to respect Hamas’s decision to use Palestinian civilians as human shields. And President Joe Biden wants everyone to move on from the surge in antisemitism so he can talk about “Islamophobia” and pander to Muslim voters in Michigan for his reelection.
The blame for civilian casualties in Gaza lies squarely on Hamas. The blame for this entire conflict lies with the antisemitic terrorists who have made destroying Israel and killing Jewish civilians their only goal. The humanitarian crisis is the fault of Hamas, which hordes resources for its attacks and leaves Palestinian civilians to suffer. Prominent Democrats should feel ashamed that they can’t bring themselves to offer the same moral clarity that Fetterman has been doing throughout this conflict.
