Another day, another dishonest gun control narrative from liberal media

Democrats and liberal media rarely have an honest argument to make when it comes to gun control. That is most obvious when it comes time to reckon with the violence that is pervasive in Democratic-run cities.
The usual response is to blame that violence on the fact that those liberal cities are in Republican-run states. That is what Axios did on Monday, parroting a report from the “left-leaning” Center for American Progress Action Fund that, surprise, blamed Republicans for gun crime.
ACADEMIA’S SELECTIVE DEFENSE OF FREE SPEECH
Both the report and Axios argue that “the findings refute Republican narratives that progressive policies stoke more crime in cities.” After all, the most violence was in cities in red states: St. Louis (Missouri), Birmingham (Alabama), New Orleans (Louisiana), and Jackson (Mississippi). Oh, and throw Chicago in there, not because Illinois is run by Republicans but because “some blue-state cities, like Chicago, are bordered by red states with looser gun laws.”
Everything is the GOP’s fault. How convenient for the liberal group and the liberal media outlet promoting this “analysis.”
But buried deeper in the article is this kicker: “Gun homicide rates were higher overall in blue cities — as defined by the mayor’s party affiliation — than in red ones.” In other words, this does not “refute” the correct analysis that “progressive policies stoke more crime in cities.” All it does is indicate that the violence is worse overall in red-state blue cities where Democrats adopt the same strategy of non-prosecution as they do in Los Angeles and Chicago.
Just take a look at the four cities Axios highlighted and you can see a clear enforcement problem. The district attorneys in Jackson and New Orleans were both backed by George Soros, the Democratic megadonor backing pro-criminal district attorneys across the country who refuse to prosecute violent career criminals. St. Louis also had a Soros-backed district attorney until she was pushed out of office in May. Birmingham’s district attorney also prioritizes pro-criminal reforms in his job as chief prosecutor.

In New Orleans, ironically enough, weak-on-crime District Attorney Jason Williams and his mother were carjacked on Monday night and felt “glad to be in the land of the living” after the experience.
It isn’t Republicans’ fault that Democrats don’t want to prosecute criminals and instead want to wail about gun control for law-abiding citizens. This is, as Axios buried in its piece, a blue-city crime problem, no matter how many times liberal media tries to pass the blame off to the nearest Republicans.
