The vicious attack by Hamas on Israel earlier this month has shown just how brutal the terrorist regime is and the depths to which they will sink to cause chaos and destruction.

From using paragliders to cross into Israel to assassinating concertgoers at a music festival to targeting and killing children, Hamas has revealed itself as the evil it truly is. And now, most voters in the country support the “eradication of Hamas.”

According to a new Rasmussen poll, “53% of likely U.S. voters believe that the Palestinians are mostly to blame for the conflict with Israel.” The fact that most of the country feels this way after the horrifying images from the Middle East is no surprise. One could argue that it is shocking that there isn’t a significantly higher percentage of voters who feel this way, given the reports of targeting women and children. Moreover, this is especially true after Hamas called for a “day of rage” last week.

Interestingly, more people seem to agree with the need to eradicate Hamas than those who want to blame Palestinians. As Rasmussen mentioned last week, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) stated that, regarding Israeli security, Hamas has to be eliminated.

“Israel has no choice but to seek the complete eradication of Hamas in Gaza,” Rubio said. “There simply is no diplomatic solution or ‘measured response’ available. This tragically necessary effort will come at a horrifying price. But the price of failing to permanently eliminate this group of sadistic savages is even more horrifying.”

It was a powerful statement by Rubio and a necessary one. It’s indicative of the dire geopolitical circumstances in the region and the magnitude of the threat posed by Hamas. It is probably why Rasmussen found that 66% of voters agreed with Rubio’s statement, including “41% who strongly agree.”

As I wrote last week, “Friction in the Middle East is nothing new. It has been happening for decades and will probably be happening for many more years. But this Hamas attack was a horrific atrocity, and it was completely unjustified aggression. Any and all rage should be directed toward Hamas — and only Hamas. The only kind of day Hamas and its supporters need is a day of atonement.”

According to Rasmussen, most of the country’s voters seem to feel the same way.
