House Republicans are tasked with finding a new speaker of the House after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted on Oct. 3. As of now, two people have emerged as the leading candidates to replace McCarthy, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). Both are fine candidates and would do a fine job. However, if the GOP wants to make an impact, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) should be the next speaker.

Originally from Brooklyn, Donalds moved to Florida to attend college. Before entering politics, he was in the banking and financial industries. He then served as the representative from Florida’s 80th District in the state House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020 before being elected to Congress in 2021. Additionally, Donalds is part of the Freedom Caucus and a member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability and the Committee on Financial Services.

BIDEN’S APPEASEMENT HAS ENCOURAGED IRAN’S TERRORIST AGENDA

At 44, Donalds would be one of the youngest to hold the position, but his youthful exuberance, energy, and assertiveness would be a welcomed change of pace. He is a great public speaker, a staunch defender of conservative cultural issues, and supports sound fiscal policies.

Furthermore, he was also previously nominated for speaker and received 20 votes on two separate occasions during the speaker of the 118th Congress election in January 2023. Given that he has only been in Congress since 2021, it showed that Donalds has earned the respect of many and is considered a leader of the GOP in the House.

Also, consider his political platform. Donalds ran as both a fiscal and cultural conservative. He has repeatedly stated his support for a balanced budget amendment. He has publicly criticized reckless government spending and inflation and noted that the nation’s “federal budget needs to be completely overhauled, reviewed, evaluated, and approved based on the level of need.”

He’s been a huge proponent of education reform and school choice and has emphasized his belief that he doesn’t think that a “ZIP code determines a child’s future.” Donalds has also been a staunch advocate of reforming the country’s energy policy to achieve energy independence. Donalds also supports vast changes to the nation’s tax policy and is adamantly opposed to the left-wing Democratic desires to redistribute wealth, calling it a page “straight out of the failed European socialism agenda.”

Furthermore, and most importantly, he does not shy away from the virulent Left’s attacks on the nation’s culture. He has shown he will stand up to the “Squad” and socialist agitators such as Rep. Jamaal “Fire alarm” Bowman (D-NY), congressional representatives who like to preach hyperbolic hysteria and try to bully conservatives in Congress.

If the GOP wants to usher in authentic, meaningful, and positive change, Byron Donalds is the Republican to do it. And while he hasn’t stated an interest or intention to run for the position, choosing him would go a long way to restoring the GOP to its former glory. He is everything any Republican could ever want in a politician, let alone speaker of the House.
