Vice President Kamala Harris may have shattered the so-called glass ceiling when she became the country’s first female vice president, but it hasn’t done much to help President Joe Biden’s perception among voters.

From her failures as the “border czar” to embarrassing public displays of ineptitude, Harris has become an anchor on the Biden 2024 ship. She is arguably one of the most incompetent vice presidents in the nation’s history. Now it seems her poor performance might be catching up and hurting Biden’s reelection efforts.

A recent Rasmussen poll revealed that most voters don’t think the vice president adds anything of value to Biden’s 2024 campaign. According to the survey, 53% of “likely U.S. voters” have an unfavorable view of Vice President Kamala Harris. This includes 44% of voters with a “very unfavorable impression” of Harris.

Additionally, and perhaps most importantly to Biden’s reelection campaign, only 22% of voters think Harris helps Biden as a running mate in the 2024 election. In comparison, according to the poll, 33% think having Harris as a running mate is detrimental to the president’s reelection chances, while 41% say Harris doesn’t make “much difference for Biden in next year’s election.” It’s an ominous sign for a much-maligned vice president.

Furthermore, 50% of voters think Harris is doing “a worse job than most of her predecessors.” Comparatively, only 22% believed she was doing a better job than the vice presidents before her, according to the poll. Another 24% felt Harris is “about the same as most previous vice presidents.” None of the responses signify anything positive about having Harris as a running mate.

Given the vice president’s track record, none of these results should be surprising in any way. There’s a reason why some have dubbed Kamala Harris “the most useless vice president of the century.”

She has arguably been a disappointment as the first female VP, even in the era of hyperpartisan identity politics. Nearly three years into her term, she has failed at most responsibilities and made no landmark or meaningful contribution during her tenure. Harris is little more than a figurehead in the position and an unpopular one at that.
