Everyone is well aware that former President Donald Trump was indicted last week by a grand jury in Washington, D.C. The four counts of his indictment — conspiracy against rights, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy to defraud the United States — have largely divided the country, according to a recent Rasmussen Reports survey. But a surprising result from the poll was that most “unaffiliated voters” were against the indictments.

Given the rampant negative coverage of Trump in the legacy media, a logical assumption would be that most independent voters would support Trump being indicted. However, according to Rasmussen, 52% of “unaffiliated voters” disapproved of the indictments. It’s a startling revelation that would seem to contradict many of the narratives in the legacy media.

Overall, other information from the poll was as many would expect. The majority of Democrat respondents approved of the indictment, while the majority of Republicans disapproved. Interestingly, there was a slightly higher percentage of Democrats who approved, 77%, than there were Republicans who disapproved, 69%. Many Republicans have claimed the indictments are nothing more than a politically biased attack from Democrats who weaponized the Department of Justice to try to sway voters from the likely Republican presidential candidate. On the other hand, Democrats claim the indictments are a sign of Trump’s corruption and justice being served.

Overall, the poll found that a slight majority, 51%, of likely voters “approve of the most recent Trump indictment by a federal grand jury.” This included 39% of people who “strongly approved” of the indictment. Conversely, 46% of respondents were against the legal actions against the former president and disapproved of the indictment, including 38% who “strongly disapproved.” And whether a voter feels Trump being indicted was justice or political persecution, the Rasmussen poll is yet another example of the vast political divide that exists in the country.
