Former President Donald Trump is either delusional, completely uninterested in becoming president again, or both. Whether it is his intention or not, all he is doing is sucking up oxygen en route to another Democratic victory in 2024.

When asked what he would do this time to win Nevada, a state that he lost in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, Trump claimed that he actually won it both times “by a lot.” He then called the swing state “disgraceful” and attacked Adam Laxalt, the GOP nominee for Senate in 2022 who Trump endorsed. He called Laxalt a “weak candidate” and “pathetic,” even though Laxalt came closer to winning in Nevada than Trump did in either of his elections.

SUPREME COURT SHOULD CRACK DOWN ON COLLEGE ADMINISTRATORS WHO DETER FREE SPEECH

Calling a swing state “disgraceful” and saying you don’t need to change anything to win it because your two losses there were actually wins is not exactly a winning strategy.

On top of that, Trump has focused his campaign in Iowa on attacking popular Republicans and avoiding the state itself. He attacked Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) because she is not going to endorse him, or any other Republican, in the primary. Reynolds won reelection in 2022 by nearly 19 points. Trump also skipped out of Sen. Joni Ernst’s (R-IA) “Roast and Ride” event and is now skipping an Iowa event being hosted by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

You can add both his bashing of Nevada and his abandonment of Iowa to the list of Trump’s ridiculous attacks and unserious “strategic” decisions. He has repeatedly attacked the popular Republican governors in winnable states such as Virginia and Georgia. He even attempted to help beat Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) in Georgia in 2022. Kemp went on to beat Trump’s primary candidate by 52 points and cruise to reelection.

Along with Nevada and Georgia, Trump has offered no changes in his approach to win over alienated voters in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, a total of six states that he should have won in 2020. His allies have destroyed the GOP state parties in Arizona and Michigan. And to top it all off, Trump has attacked GOP politicians including Reynolds, Kemp, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) (before he was even Trump’s opponent) more than he has attacked prominent Democrats like Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA).

It is possible that Trump is completely delusional and truly believes he won every state in both elections and that GOP voters would rather see him attack Republicans than Democrats. It’s possible that he is simply trying to coast through the primary and into the general election with no intention of actually trying to become president. It may even be that both of those are true. But whether his delusional display is sincere or not, the reality remains that he has no plan to actually beat Democrats in 2024, and all he is doing is tearing down Republicans who don’t bend the knee to him.
