Democrats are still loudly complaining about how terrible it is that Texas is sending illegal immigrants to their sanctuary cities, and yet they still have no explanation as to why it is terrible.

The latest is Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, following the messaging used by Democrats in Chicago and New York City as Texas finally decided to send illegal immigrants to her city. “It is abhorrent that an American elected official is using human beings as pawns in his cheap political games,” Bass said.

She decried the “despicable stunt” and “petty politicians playing with human lives.”

But why is this abhorrent? Why is it despicable and petty? These illegal immigrants aren’t being rounded up and forced onto buses or planes to go to these liberal cities. They are being offered transportation and accepting it.

Let’s even take her claim that they are being used as “pawns” as fact. In this case, being used as a pawn means being given transportation to a loving, tolerant sanctuary city that promises to accept you and protect you, does it not?

Even if this is all some cynical game by Gov. Greg Abbott, isn’t he still doing what is best for these illegal immigrants? Los Angeles City Council members said just last week that immigrants were the “very fabric of this city” and deserved a “true sanctuary city.” Is that no longer the case?

This is the hurdle that Democrats in Chicago and New York City also stumbled at when Texas began sending them illegal immigrants.

In no way is it “cruel” or “abhorrent” to send people to a place that has promised to take care of them, when those people are volunteering to go there. Texas’s border towns are overrun and cannot care for them, so why would America’s largest cities that have declared themselves “sanctuaries” not be the logical place to help them get to?

This is nothing more than Bass, like the Democratic mayors before her, trying to project strength and show that this doesn’t rattle her. The fact that the Democratic mayors before her also immediately began raising the alarm about the strain on resources that the arrival of a few illegal immigrants led to shows that it has failed repeatedly.

Until the border crisis is fixed, Texas should continue to hold sanctuary cities to their promises. Bass and other mayors can only complain from a position of weakness.
