There are two Biden officials who the GOP should certainly move ahead with impeaching. The first is Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The less obvious, but equally deserving, option is Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

Facing Congress, Becerra continued to defend the forced masking of children during the pandemic. He repeatedly deflected when Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) asked if forcibly masking two-year-olds made people safer. He either lied or somehow didn’t know about his department’s role in forcibly masking children, claiming that “we never forced anyone to do anything” when the department did impose mask mandates on children as young as two through the Head Start program.

On top of that, when Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) asked whether Becerra would withhold hospital grants from states that do not allow irreversible sex change surgeries for minors, Becerra confirmed that he would, claiming that it is a right of any American to permanently disfigure their children with sex change surgeries.

Go back through Becerra’s record and you will find that his entire tenure at HHS has been incompetence on COVID and the irresponsible promotion of sex change surgeries for minors. Under Becerra, HHS lists sex change surgeries as something that can be approved for adolescents, who can be as young as 10 years old. He’s argued that taxpayers should be funding sex change surgeries for children.

On COVID, Becerra was completely absent. In September 2021, it was reported that he had not taken part in any COVID-19 briefings. None of this was surprising because Becerra was clearly picked for his background as the chief culture warrior in California when he served as the state’s attorney general. He had no background in public health. His role in the Biden administration was always going to be to push extreme liberal culture wars while ignoring the pandemic that got Biden elected in the first place.

Impeaching Becerra (or Mayorkas) won’t make a substantive difference in the administration, but it will send a message to Biden and the Democratic Party. Becerra’s job performance during the pandemic was abysmal, and the culture wars he is using HHS to push should be opposed at every opportunity. Becerra should be out of his job sooner rather than later.
