A recent Ipsos poll found that 18% of Gen Z identify as part of the LGBT community, versus only 10% of millennials.
The survey collected information from 22,514 people across 30 countries.
In a section called “LGBT+ Visibility,” the study’s authors wrote that “Consistent with self-identification, the prevalence of knowing someone who is LGBT+ is much higher among younger adults than among older adults.”

The popular explanation for this is acceptance. Because society has become more accepting of the LGBT community, more people are comfortable coming out as their true selves.
But, if modernity is so accepting, why is there such a huge gap between the number of millennials and Gen-Zers who identify as LGBT? Why don’t more closeted millennials come out? And what about the monstrous gap between Gen Z and older generations? The study shows that Gen-Xers are four times less likely to come out than Gen-Zers.
Society’s “acceptance” of LGBT ideology is not the only factor causing these hoards of young folk to come out. Gen Z is constantly seeking acceptance and validation. Today’s youth does not feel accepted by society. And this is why so many of them depend on communities like that of TikTok.
A statistic from March revealed that, of its 2.6 billion downloads, 60% of TikTok’s users are Gen Z.
On TikTok, attractive young people post a short clip of themselves lip-syncing, and have the potential to go viral overnight. The app has an impressive community of young people who are famous because of their eccentric appearances — some with crazy, whimsical outfits, others with a dozen facial piercings, and many with heavy makeup. And if you scroll through their pages, you will find that their appearances are all they post.
Personas like these become an absolute craze for the TikTok crowd.
Users like this are also likely to be LGBT. They either have “they/she” pronouns in their bios, or they identify as bisexual, or they may be transgender.
If these kinds of people are blowing up on TikTok, why wouldn’t teens want to mimic them? Their comment sections are filled with adoring compliments from other users, laughter, and trendy slang. This is the in-crowd.
The model for “cool” is to diverge from what used to be considered normal as much as possible.
You will often see people first coming out as gay or lesbian, but then they will come out as bisexual and genderfluid (a boggling contradiction) or pansexual and nonbinary. You may see it in a change to someone’s pronouns in their Instagram bio.
This is because “fluidity” is the new anti-authoritarianism. The rebellion of Gen Z is to choose ignorance in the face of biological fact. The idea that there are two genders is old-school.
Like all generations of teenagers, the hopeful end of Gen Z’s rebellion is just to find somewhere to fit in. So, it seeks protection, refuge, and instruction from the LGBT community.

But, the LGBT community is devious. It promotes an ideology that encourages the destruction of true identity. The movement itself is constantly transforming — it offers no real “safe space” or stability.
And, as we have seen, it has the dangerous potential to lead young people down the path of no return.
