Dr. Rochelle Walensky was a terrible director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and President Joe Biden’s replacement for her promises to be just as bad.

Biden’s pick to lead the CDC is Dr. Mandy Cohen, who previously served as the secretary of North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services. In that role, Cohen led North Carolina’s pandemic response, and her actions were just as panicked and anti-science as Walensky’s were in her time leading the CDC.

HOW GEORGE SOROS IS SPREADING ADDICTION, DEATH, AND CHAOS ACROSS THE US

For example, in September 2021, the Union County Public Schools system decided to “end staff responsibility for contact tracing and quarantine operations for any asymptomatic or non-positive students and staff.” This was obviously the correct decision because continuing to monitor and quarantine students who hadn’t tested positive or shown any COVID-19 symptoms only harmed their educations. Children never were at serious risk from COVID-19, and they belonged in schools.

Instead, Cohen threatened to bring down the legal might of the state on the school district, threatening “legal action” if the state did not force asymptomatic students out of school with needless quarantines. Cohen said at the time that “children under 18 are being hit particularly hard in this latest surge” based only on case numbers, not hospitalizations or deaths — which were always far lower than that of the flu for children.

Cohen said as late as October 2021 that children should be forcibly masked in schools if they are not vaccinated despite the fact that it offered no health benefit to children or to vaccinated adults even before you consider that cloth masks were ineffective against COVID-19. In November 2020, she said people should only have small gatherings for Thanksgiving, outside, while wearing masks.

Walensky’s tenure in charge of the CDC was an embarrassing failure, a combination of anti-science COVID panic and public health authoritarianism. Cohen’s record only shows more of the same. Advocating restrictions and mandates on children in schools in 2021 should be immediately disqualifying, yet Biden sees it as a prerequisite for running the public health bureaucracy.
