Tom Hanks complains about lack of ‘truth’ in ‘our republic’ after receiving fake degree from Harvard

Left-wing actor Tom Hanks pontificated about the importance of telling the truth while addressing this year’s graduates at Harvard University. The speech was ironic coming from Hanks, given his profession, political and ideological allegiances, and the fact that he was receiving an honorary (fake) degree from the prestigious Ivy League university.

“For the truth to some is no longer empirical. It’s no longer based on data, nor common sense, nor even common decency,” Hanks said during his commencement speech. “Telling the truth is no longer the benchmark for public service. It’s no longer the salve to our fears, or the guide to our actions. Truth is now considered malleable, by opinion and by zero-sum endgames.”

WHY MEMORIAL DAY AND INDEPENDENCE DAY SHOULD BE BACK TO BACK

Honorary degrees are a charade given each year by universities throughout the country.

The problem I had with Hanks’ speech was his lamenting the importance of truth in the country, while, in many ways, he is part of the problem he complained about. Long known as a staunch liberal Democrat, Hanks has said absolutely nothing about much of the Left’s misinformation over the years and often was a willing participant in emanating it. Besides, if Hanks was truly concerned with deception, his commencement speech would have been the perfect time to criticize Harvard University’s apparent deceit and discrimination in admitting Asian-American students.

Moreover, I don’t recall Hanks saying anything when an Ivy League man was pretending to be a woman and defeating college females in NCAA swimming last year. I can’t find any objections from Hanks to those who have claimed that men can get pregnant and have babies. Hanks doesn’t appear to have said anything when Democrats advanced the lie that police officers in our country hunt down unarmed black men.

And, giving his apparent disdain for “malleable truth,” Hanks said nothing after President Joe Biden, Vice-President Kamala Harris, or Dr. Anthony Fauci advanced the misinformation that COVID-19 vaccines would prevent people from getting and spreading the virus. Hanks was also quiet when the aforementioned people essentially proclaimed that anyone who rejected getting the vaccines was an accomplice to murder.

And while Hanks admittedly didn’t criticize anyone or anything specifically, instead just bemoaning the deterioration of what he considered the objective truth, his silence over the years — as well as embracing many of the lies that liberal Democrats have spread — spoke volumes.

He’s culpable for the sins he lectured about to Harvard’s graduates.

Maybe Hanks has seen the error of his ways as he’s gotten older, but I doubt it. He may be upset about the truth falling apart in our country, but he contributed to that chaos. And while he was given a volleyball as a lighthearted gesture to commemorate his role in the film Castaway, after preaching about the sins of what happens when the truth is lost, Hanks — and those in attendance — would have been better served if he was given a mirror.
