Israel is quietly executing a masterclass in geopolitical realism, while Western diplomats indulge in hand-wringing and empty rhetoric. Advanced Israeli weapon sales to Latin America are not simply commercial side deals. Today, Jerusalem’s defense exports function as a practical instrument for securing a hemisphere under growing pressure from a hostile revisionist axis.
That pressure is already visible across the region. Tehran has turned Venezuela and Bolivia into forward operating bases, deploying advanced drones and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps advisers to export its terrorist network. Beijing has poured $3.5 billion into Peru’s Chancay deep-water port, creating a facility built to harbor Chinese naval vessels and project power into the Americas. Moscow supplies discounted weapons to corrupt dictatorships in Nicaragua and Cuba to destabilize the U.S. southern border. Together, these advances are turning Latin America into another arena of geostrategic competition.
Crucially, the Jewish state is already helping Washington’s regional partners push back, and it has supplied advanced drones and precision weapons to key democratic governments across the region. These cutting-edge materials integrate with legacy U.S. equipment and give local forces a decisive qualitative edge against Iranian, Chinese, and Russian influence operations. Peru’s recent acquisition of Elbit’s PULS rocket system and Argentina’s expanding purchases under President Javier Milei are only the most visible examples. In 2025, Israeli firms ranked as the second-largest supplier of advanced unmanned systems and precision munitions to Latin American militaries, trailing only the United States.
Those realities undermine left-wing claims that such sales are reckless. Latin America is a critical front line in the global contest between the rules-based order and authoritarian revisionism. While Tehran spreads subversion, Beijing deploys surveillance grids alongside predatory debt-trap diplomacy, and Russia hunts for desperate clients, Israel delivers battle-tested hardware, training, and production agreements that build genuine partner capacity. Israeli strategic realism, therefore, fills a vacuum left by Western hesitation with tools that serve American national interests.
The benefits extend beyond the battlefield. These defense sales also make Israel a far more useful ally to Washington. By generating independent defense revenue, Jerusalem reduces its vulnerability to the leftist or “Carlsonian” right political weaponization of U.S. foreign aid. A more self-reliant Israel becomes a stronger, less constrained partner for Washington. Deeper ties with responsible governments also help deny China a free hand over the Lithium Triangle’s critical mineral reserves.
To that end, Washington must aggressively champion its allies’ strategic initiatives. These actions check Iranian and Chinese expansionism and strengthen pro-Western regimes — at zero cost to American taxpayers. While Beijing and Moscow practice reckless, unconstrained proliferation, Israel’s stringent end-user controls ensure sensitive technology never falls into terrorist hands.

Doing more requires Washington to drop its bureaucratic hesitation. The State Department must stop treating arms sales to democratic partners in Latin America as human-rights liabilities while ignoring Chinese surveillance networks and Iranian subversion. U.S. officials should instead fast-track Western-aligned procurement. The Pentagon and SOUTHCOM must establish a formal trilateral intelligence framework linking U.S. analysts, Israeli defense experts, and trusted partners such as Argentina, Colombia, and Peru. Finally, Congress should counter European-funded lawfare aimed at disrupting Israeli contracts, including suspending foreign military financing to any country that sabotages its own Western-integrated systems under boycott pressure.
Jerusalem’s strategic agreements bypass dysfunctional institutions to build a parallel security architecture, hardening pro-Western partners at zero cost in American blood. Washington must now choose between unapologetic allies who deliver, or cede the region to revisionist powers.
