Iran reportedly sought to assassinate President Donald Trump on Air Force One last week, ahead of the Butler, Pennsylvania, shooting anniversary. The regime’s push to kill the commander in chief has seemingly intensified since Trump declared the memorandum of understanding “over.”
One might ask: Why would Iran want to kill Trump now? The answer might seem obvious — he’s responsible for the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the military humiliation of the Islamic Republic. But I don’t think those facts fully explain the current sense of urgency.
The reason Iran wants to kill Trump now is the reason many Democrats view impeachment as a futile effort: It would bring about a President JD Vance. The difference is, while Vance may be just as much of a thorn in the domestic Left’s side as Trump, he is much friendlier to Iran than the 45th and 47th president.
Vance was the architect of the memorandum of understanding — the same Iran nuclear deal that was on track to reintegrate Iran into the global economy, lift all sanctions, unfreeze funds, and rebuild its economy with a $300 billion restoration fund. All the United States would get in return is empty promises of peace from known liars who broke those promises within days of making them. And Trump was the one who killed this deal.
If the MOU wasn’t enough of a betrayal of one of America’s greatest allies in Israel (let alone our national security), his rhetoric on the Jewish state’s self-defense strikes on Iranian proxies in Lebanon certainly benefited Tehran more than any other party. He criticized Israel after it was the one attacked, claiming Trump is the “only” world leader sympathetic to Israel, accusing Israel of killing many people who “have nothing to do with Hezbollah,” and essentially warning Israel not to bite the hand that feeds it.
So, Vance wants to fund Israel’s greatest existential threat and then tie its hands? While Trump is often described as Israel’s “best friend,” it looks like Vance is Iran’s.
It gets weirder when you consider who Vance associates with. The vice president has reportedly been “regularly talking” with Trita Parsi, who has been described as “Tehran’s best friend in Washington” for effectively acting as the regime’s unofficial lobby. Parsi has high praise for Vance’s anti-Israel rhetoric, suggesting he is “changing the paradigm” by “reminding the Israelis that they are alone” and “disliked internationally.”
Vance’s relationship with the Carlson family also can’t be overlooked. He’s friends with Tucker Carlson, who, along with his brother, has Israel derangement syndrome and accuses Israel of genocide, and until recently, Vance employed Carlson’s son as his deputy press secretary.
Iran has been wanting to kill Trump for years now, especially after he took out Islamic Revolutionary Guard Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani in 2020. But where does the newfound sense of urgency come from? It appears Iran has realized it would be far better off if Vance were president.
TRUMP DECLARES IRAN DEAL DEAD: WAS THIS THE PLAN ALL ALONG?
Based on what we have seen over the last month, an unfettered Vance administration would abandon the only democracy in the Middle East and enrich a regime that chants “death to America” — all in the name of “America First.” Vance’s inner circle speaks about Israel the way New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani does, and Vance’s diplomatic efforts in the region would make former President Barack Obama blush.
Iran may have noticed this. Trump must come to the same realization soon and act accordingly, because Vance is inadvertently putting a bigger target on the president’s back by being Tehran’s more favorable partner. Two years to the day after Trump was shot in the ear, the president should be on high alert.
