Mamdani-endorsed socialist primary winner previously posted about using US flag as a napkin

Darializa Avila Chevalier won the Democratic primary election for New York City’s 13th Congressional District on Tuesday night, defeating Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY). Chevalier, a self-described socialist whom New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed, defeated the five-term congressman by a margin of 49.4% of the vote to Espaillat’s 45.9%, good for a lead of over 2,300 votes as of early Wednesday (with 88% of the vote counted), according to the Associated Press. And she won the election after making disrespectful and disparaging remarks about the U.S. flag.

Given the city’s voting demographics, it is highly likely that Chevalier will be the next congressional representative from New York’s 13th District. This also means she will be the latest socialist to be elected to office from the Big Apple. New York City, once considered the preeminent symbol of capitalism in the world, is slowly evolving into a paradise of socialist politicians. First, there was Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), then there was fire alarm enthusiast former Rep. Jamaal Bowman, then Mamdani, and now Chevalier.

The election of socialists in New York is a very troubling trend. And the election of someone of the character of Chevalier, or lack thereof, has confirmed several claims that conservatives and Republicans have been saying about Democrats in recent years, most notably, they hate the country. Candidates such as Chevalier confirm this. Look no further than Chevalier’s own words from an old social media post, in which she said she used the U.S. flag as a napkin.

“I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me,” Chevalier said in a social media post from 2019. This denigration was accompanied with a smiling face emoji from the soon-to-be congresswoman, according to the New York Post.

Richard Grenell, former acting director of national intelligence and current special presidential envoy for special missions, posted about Chevalier’s anti-Americanism in a post on X early Wednesday morning.

“Every reporter in DC should be asking every Democrat if they support this,” Grenell said, regarding Chevalier’s comment about using the flag as a napkin. And he’s right.

However, not only should every reporter be asking this, every American should be asking it too. Chevalier is the kind of hateful, divisive, anti-American politico that causes great damage to the country when elected to office. She ran for office in a country she loathes, hates, and a country with a government that she wants to tear down. She is a left-wing revolutionary. Thanks to the voters of New York’s 13th Congressional District, and the years, nay decades, of radical left-wing indoctrination in classrooms and the culture that shaped these voters’ minds, she has infiltrated Congress.

It is time to stop playing around and to take the socialist threat in this country seriously. For far too long, Republicans have been dismissing this threat, ridiculing it, mocking it, and doing everything but addressing it. As recently as 2025, when then-candidate Mamdani’s mayoral campaign was gaining traction and political momentum, conservatives and Republicans turned to infighting and focused their energy on such things as podcasters and “influencers” who have no real influence, power, or political authority. As the socialist barbarians were at the gates, conservatives and Republicans were jousting about “the dangers” of fringe podcast hosts.

A BIG NIGHT FOR MAMDANI AS SOCIALISTS KEEP WINNING DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES

That must change, and it must change now. A specter is haunting (and threatening) the United States, the specter of socialism and communism. As the nation’s largest cities continue to elect socialist leaders and regimes, it’s time for conservatives and Republicans to acknowledge this danger and do everything possible to resist it. Otherwise, one day we will wake up to a completely different social, cultural, justice, and economic system in the People’s Democratic Republic of the United States.

The largest city in the U.S. just sent someone who openly hates the country and everything it represents to Congress. We must open our eyes before it is too late. The socialist threat is real, and it is here — and it’s been here for years. And with a greater than century head start, the infiltration of the nation’s education and cultural institutions, and with a wealthy, effective, and efficient global network, it produces a dangerous enemy in the battle for the soul, and ultimately survival, of the U.S.
