Democrats are so committed to keeping illegal immigrants in the country that they are willing to blame a woman for getting shot by one in Chicago just to avoid talking about deportations.
Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old freshman at Loyola University, was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant in Chicago last Thursday. The suspect is Joe Medina, a Venezuelan illegal immigrant with a criminal record in the city. According to police, Medina approached Gorman and her friends and shot her in the head.

Who to blame? Anyone but illegal immigration and Medina himself. Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL), who took multiple days to acknowledge the murder, blamed President Donald Trump. Pritzker called the shooting “A failure of the president to follow his own edict to go after the worst of the worst.” It is Trump’s fault, according to Pritzker, that the illegal immigrants whom Pritzker is protecting from deportation were not deported. Try to square the circle, if you can.
Worse was the defense offered by Alderwoman Maria Hadden, who represents the area where the shooting took place. Hadden said that, while “the kids were out doing normal things people do in the neighborhood,” they ended up in the “wrong place” at the “wrong time,” as if it were some unavoidable act of nature. Not only that, Hadden said this: “They”, referring to Gorman and her friends, “might have startled this person at the end of the pier.”
That’s right, Sheridan Gorman might have unintentionally killed herself, “startling” an armed illegal immigrant like he was an animal in a wildlife reserve. To be fair to Hadden, she said this before the suspect was known, if you think that somehow makes it better. Nothing we could have been done to stop this, according to Chicago and Illinois Democrats who have done everything they can to keep illegal immigrants in their city. This is just how things are now.

Medina was arrested in 2023, one month after he illegally entered the country, for shoplifting. Chicago should have turned him over for deportation then, but the city refused. He then skipped a court date and had a pending warrant up until this shooting. Pritzker has made sure the state fights to keep illegal immigrants in Illinois rather than handing them over for deportation, and Chicago never bothered to track down Medina to bring him to justice. Those policies got Gorman killed.
It was not Gorman’s fault. She was not in the “wrong place at the wrong time.” She was “doing normal things people do in the neighborhood” and got murdered, allegedly by a trigger-happy illegal immigrant that Pritzker and Chicago Democrats would refuse to deport. Then, Pritzker and Chicago Democrats turn around to put the blame on anyone but themselves and the illegal immigrant they are trying to protect, because they simply do not believe illegal immigrants should be deported. That is why Sheridan Gorman is dead.
