Anyone with a functioning moral compass is horrified by the thought of the government seizing confused children from parents and allowing strangers to mutilate their bodies via “gender-affirming care,” a perverse euphemism for plying children with puberty blockers or hormones, or worse.
During the State of the Union, President Donald Trump proposed that “no state can be allowed to rip children from their parents’ arms and transition them to a new gender against the parents’ will. Who can believe that we’re even talking about it?” Republicans then stood and clapped when the president introduced Sage Blair, a teenager who the state of Virginia allowed to “transition” while hiding it from her parents. Democrats sat, as they would for most of the president’s speech. “Look, nobody stands up,” Trump said, pointing to the minority party. “These people are crazy.”
Yes, they are. I’m positive most of the politicians sitting on the Democrats’ side of the congressional divide during the State of the Union recognize that children don’t have the maturity, much less the magical ability to choose a gender. I’m sure most of them would be distressed if one of their own demanded to be identified by the wrong sex and asked to be mutilated. But they’re all members of a political party that’s been captured by fringe social science quackery and militant factions of unhinged activists. Democratic Party candidates who fail to embrace gender pseudoscience probably aren’t going to win primaries. And that’s crazy.
You want to heckle and jeer the president during the State of the Union, have at it. I’m sure Trump can give as good as he gets. Maybe a raucous speech would be more representative of where we stand as a nation right now. But when Trump asked attendees to stand if they agreed that the “first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” Democrats should get up. I realize the Left sees the question as a false choice and a cheap stunt — welcome to politics! — but, nonetheless, they look weirdly out of touch.
It didn’t help that most Democrats stayed seated for Jacqueline Medina, the mother of Lizbeth Medina, who was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant. Then again, Democrats, only a few years ago, placating liberals who were calling for defunding the police, couldn’t get themselves to celebrate the fact that the murder rate had fallen. Yes, that is crazy.
Now, it isn’t surprising that Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), decked out in her Keffiyeh terrorist shawl, has little sympathy for murder victims. Or that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) screams “KKK, KKK” at the president like some lunatic while others are chanting “USA, USA.” But it’s crazy that these lawmakers are not only in good standing on the Democrat side but celebrated. Do you think a normie is impressed?
There were occasional moments of unity during the president’s speech. Even those often rang hollow. For instance, while Congress celebrates the USA men’s gold-winning hockey team, a completely relatable, fun, and patriotic group of athletes, the American Left acts like a bunch of scowling schoolmarms, demanding the players apologize for laughing at an innocuous joke made by Trump. It is safe to say that most normies find people who transform everything into a political struggle session insufferable.
MAGA’S DANGEROUS DELEGITIMIZATION OF THE SUPREME COURT
The same people admonishing hockey players, incidentally, continue to treat Eileen Gu, an outstanding Olympic skier who abandoned the United States for a big payday with Communist China, as if she were an American role model. Also, crazy.
Trump may be unpopular. You may believe he’s wrong on most issues. You may find him boorish. But most of his rhetoric falls well within the normie American patriotic tradition.
The reason faux centrist Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, who has yet to answer whether she believes boys should be able to play girls sports, delivered the State of the Union rebuttal from Colonial Williamsburg was to create the impression that the contemporary Democratic Party holds similarly conventional and mainstream views.
They don’t. Not anymore.
