Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) finally revealed his true colors last night during President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech. And for a politician who has regularly paraded himself as a bastion of constitutional morality and defender of American rights over the last year, he utterly failed in spectacular fashion when asked to demonstrate his allegiance to Americans, not just talk about it.
Benjamin Franklin famously said, “Well done is better than well said.” They are words that Kelly should heed.
The Democratic senator, who has spent the better part of the last year trying to portray himself as the ultimate soldier of morality, showed that he really doesn’t care about American citizens, instead displaying a cult-like devotion and allegiance to his radical illegal immigration ideology for the entire country to witness. When Trump asked Congress to stand if they agreed with the statement, “The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” Kelly remained seated. And in doing so, he showed his devotion to illegal immigration.
Kelly will stand for illegal immigrants, but sit for citizens. It was a truly symbolic moment that showed Kelly’s true priorities. It was an inverse of the symbolic patriotism with which Kelly seeks to align himself. Yet, in this ultimate test, in front of the country, in a defining moment requiring one simple act to demonstrate an allegiance to the people, people who elected him, people whom Kelly serves, he could not do it.
This was also true for the other “sinister six” members of Congress who championed themselves as beacons of morality and victims of a rogue presidential administration. Yet, when given a straightforward task to demonstrate an allegiance to the people over illegal immigrants, they all failed. It shows they were nothing but left-wing, liberal, Democrat political operatives masquerading as members of Congress this entire time.
Detractors will claim that the inaction stemmed from the political differences that Kelly and his accomplices have with the president. But this was not a partisan task. This was not a show of support for Trump, Republicans, or political policies. It was a request to demonstrate an allegiance to the people who elected them as part of being a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
However, Kelly showed he doesn’t subscribe to those principles. He is a member of the government to control the people, rule the people, and impose his will on people — even if his will prioritizes illegal immigrants over American citizens. It bears repeating: One simple request to stand for American citizens over illegal immigrants, and Kelly couldn’t bring himself to do it. He chose to follow the unethical, ideologically driven orders of his political comrades rather than show support for those who elected him.
ELISSA SLOTKIN, MARK KELLY, AND DEMOCRATIC PRIVILEGE
It is noteworthy to recall the next time Kelly speaks, mentions constitutional rights, or any of the other fake patriotic platitudes he has regurgitated over the last year. His phony self-righteousness is merely a performative act, and Trump proved it last night. Sure, his omniscience will still appeal to his indoctrinated supporters. Nonetheless, in reality, his inability to commit to supporting American citizens should be an eye-opener for everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
Any elected official who cannot prioritize protecting the people should not be in office. Moreover, such an elected official should not even come close to the presidency, which is unquestionably one of Kelly’s current ambitions.
Mark Kelly cares about Mark Kelly. Mark Kelly cares about illegal immigration. Mark Kelly does not care about citizens of the United States of America.
