Open borders activists in Minneapolis are setting up lawless anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement “checkpoints.” To maintain order, the Minnesota government must crack down on this, clear every encampment, and prosecute those responsible for them.
Minneapolis activists are planning to establish 1,000 of these checkpoints across the city. These are lawless road blockades designed to stop ICE vehicles, with activist guards who have decided that they are above the law and can stop any person or vehicle they want to interrogate them about whether or not they are with ICE.
The hypocrisy of this movement is jarring. These activists demand identification from random people to “know who’s coming and going in and out of our neighborhoods.” They have created their own version of ICE, except it has no legal authority whatsoever and is made up of activists who are trying to harass law enforcement and are harassing or even physically assaulting journalists and random civilians who those activists decide look like ICE agents. They are just like the ICE agents they are criticizing, except they are more violent, less trained, and actively breaking the law instead of enforcing it.
Hypocrisy aside, these activist obstructions are incredibly dangerous. Open borders activists have been convinced by Democratic politicians that they are above the law and that they can use force to obstruct or confront federal immigration agents and other law enforcement. Those who will use violence against law enforcement will not hesitate to use it against private citizens as well, knowingly or unknowingly, creating brewing pockets of the city that could turn violent at any moment.

This can have fatal consequences. These checkpoints resemble Seattle’s “autonomous zones” from 2020, where lawless activists blocked off roads and ran their own little communities with no law enforcement allowed. That resulted in a 16-year-old boy being shot and killed. The city of Seattle was just ordered to pay $30 million to the family over that death, because the city allowed activists to block traffic, preventing paramedics from reaching the victim in a timely manner.
Minnesota is courting the same outcome by allowing these lawless zones to operate in Minneapolis. These obstructions must be bulldozed, and the people running them arrested to prevent the lawlessness from spiraling into something like what happened in Seattle. Anything less is Minnesota Democrats emboldening criminals (which is what these activists are), which will result in more people getting injured and killed.
