Democrats continue to live in a fantastical world where they claim they do not want Hamas in power in Gaza but oppose any and all measures of actually removing them from power before granting the Palestinians their own state.
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) decided to use the terrorist attack against Jews in Australia to defend the “two-state solution” between Israel and the Palestinians, criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to eliminate Hamas. Khanna blamed Netanyahu for the death and destruction in the Middle East and for making Jews less safe worldwide.
ISRAEL KILLS TOP HAMAS COMMANDER HOURS AFTER TERRORISTS ATTACKED ISRAELI SOLDIERS
He then laid out his own grand plan: “I think what we need to do to create peace is to have Hamas out [and] have a demilitarized Palestinian state that recognizes Israel as a Jewish democratic state,” Khanna said.
That’s all great, truly inspiring. There is a notable problem here, though: What mechanism does Khanna, or any other Democrat, support to “have Hamas out” if they oppose Israel’s military operations against it? If militarily removing Hamas from power is off the table, what is on the table? We know Khanna and his colleagues most likely would not support economic sanctions against Gaza, as that would be just as bad as Israel “starving” Gaza every time Hamas starts a war and hoards all the food in the territory.
PALESTINIAN PROPAGANDA HAS GLOBALIZED THE INTIFADA
So, if no military force can be used and no economic pressure can be exerted, how exactly do you plan to get Hamas to step down? Does Khanna really think that Hamas would ever diplomatically agree to step aside and demilitarize for the promise of a Palestinian state? Hamas does not care about Palestinians, as evidenced by hiding its terrorist tunnels and weapons storage in civilian areas in Gaza. Hamas does not care about a Palestinian state if it means that it doesn’t get to kill Israelis anymore. Hamas has leaders living in luxury in Qatar; do you think any of them would really want to change the status quo?
Hamas will never leave power in Gaza if it is not forced to do so. Hamas consists of genocidal, antisemitic terrorists who have all the power in Gaza and all the food they want while Palestinian civilians starve. It also doesn’t want a two-state solution: It wants to destroy Israel and kill Jews. There is never going to be any good faith negotiation with Hamas, which it has shown with every ceasefire and hostage deal with which it has been involved. You live in a fantasy world if you ever think Hamas will willingly give up power and terrorism in exchange for a Palestinian state.
