Biden’s EV boondoggles

.

Former President Joe Biden‘s time in office may be long forgotten by voters (and perhaps by Biden himself), but the nation is still feeling the effects, especially the billions of dollars he wasted in appeasing climate change activists and their delusional panic.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) revealed that the U.S. Postal Service received more than $3 billion in taxpayer dollars to create a fleet of electric mail trucks as part of Biden’s 2022 “Inflation Reduction Act.” (Remember, the climate boondoggle bill that caused inflation to spiral out of control?) With the more than $3 billion taken from hardworking taxpayers, the USPS now has a total of 612 electric vehicles.

For you non-math majors, that comes out to a cost of just under $5 million per electric truck. How’s that for a bargain?

That is not quite fair, as the USPS also now has nearly 9,000 electric vans that can also help deliver mail. However, nearly 7,000 of those are doing nothing because they can’t cover the routes that the electric trucks were designed to cover — money well spent.

This may remind you of a similar multibillion-dollar EV-related dud, when Biden allocated $7.5 billion to build “tens of thousands of electric vehicle chargers across the country” under his 2021 infrastructure law. Two years in, the program built zero new charging ports. Two years later, we now have a total of 384 ports at 68 charging stations, a total of one charging port for every $19.5 million spent.

Biden even threatened during his term to make people pay more money for his EV climate dreams in the form of EV mandates. His administration wanted to mandate that half of all new cars sold by 2030 be EVs, artificially restricting the supply of gas-powered vehicles and forcing people to buy more expensive EVs, with car manufacturers knowing they would not have a choice otherwise. Biden intended to increase that percentage to 67% by 2032.

HOW CONGRESS, THE COURTS, AND TRUMP FREED DRIVERS FROM THE EV MANDATE

Biden was not alone in this mission. Former Vice President Kamala Harris was even more authoritarian when it came to climate policy. In 2019, she co-sponsored a bill that would have banned the sale of new gas cars (and gas and EV hybrid cars) by the year 2040. Much like her home state of California, Harris wanted to force people into EVs, which would not have been able to be charged at any of the vacant lots where she and Biden funneled billions of dollars for EV chargers that were never built.

Those billions upon billions of dollars will not come back, and they very clearly will not pay for the promised fleet of trucks or fields of EV chargers that were pitched to voters in the first place. It is yet another way that Biden set Americans back billions of dollars with ambitious promises that he was never going to be competent enough to uphold. Voters should remember this every time their paychecks are delivered by non-EV USPS vehicles with chunks taken out for taxes.
