Sliwa exploits taxpayer funds instead of dropping out

In an attempt to diminish New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani‘s momentum in the race for New York City mayor, current Mayor Eric Adams threw his support behind former Gov. Andrew Cuomo last Thursday to succeed him at City Hall.

Despite Adams’s endorsement, however, Mamdani will most likely win on Nov. 4 if Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa does not drop out of the race.

MAMDANI’S CLOSING MESSAGE: WHINING ABOUT ‘ISLAMOPHOBIA’

“We’re fighting against a snake-oil salesman,” Adams said in his final campaign rally a month after he rescinded his reelection bid in September, after polling around 10%. “New York can’t be Europe, folks. I don’t know what is wrong with people. You see what’s playing out in other countries because of Islamic extremism.”

A recent Quinnipiac University poll found that Cuomo has reached 33% of the vote, compared to his 23% in September of this year, which puts him less than 15% away from surpassing Mamdani’s strong lead of 46%.

Mamdani, who has long campaigned for weakened law enforcement, education, and tax reform, and refused to condemn antisemitic rhetoric, condemned the endorsement on Thursday, stating that “Andrew Cuomo is running for Eric Adams’ second term.”

Instead of following suit, Sliwa, who is polling at about 15%, also slammed Adam’s endorsement, calling it advantageous for corruption.

If Sliwa really cared about New York as much as he says he does, he would put his money where his mouth is, set his pride aside, and drop out of the race.

Unfortunately, Sliwa is far from doing that. Billionaire investor Bill Ackman recently said the two-time Republican candidate refuses to drop out because he enjoys living off the taxpayer-matched contributions his campaign receives.

Under the city’s public campaign finance program, donations from local residents can be matched at an 8-to-1 ratio. As stated by Ackman, Sliwa’s close friends and relatives are on the campaign’s payroll, which will continue receiving contributions for the remainder of the race.

Sliwa’s wife, for instance, is one of the highest earners of the campaign.

The personal greed from Sliwa’s campaign staff jeopardizes the future of what once was America’s greatest city.

A Mayor Mamdani would endanger the public welfare by weakening law enforcement, undermine the city’s public education system through unconstitutional race-based programs and universal curricula, and alienate the city’s Jewish community by dismantling the limited legal protections that currently shield them from antisemitic harassment.

Yale University student and pro-Israel activist Netanel Crispe told the Washington Examiner the recent endorsement is a long-overdue yet necessary step to weaken Mamdani’s momentum.

“[If Mamdani were to win] we would find ourselves living in a world turned upside down, where moral depravity, cloaked in the false guise of social justice and progressive reform, reigns supreme,” Crispe stated. “The politics of NYC continue to set a national precedent.”

“Mamdani’s effort to release criminals back onto our streets would send a clear and reverberating message that crimes, including attacks on the Jewish community, can be committed without fear of repercussions.”

A MAYOR MAMDANI WILL FURTHER RADICALIZE THE LEFT

As early voting has already begun, the threat of Mamdani’s dangerous promises taking effect becomes increasingly real, which places great pressure on Sliwa to drop out of the race.

“If he dropped out, maybe Cuomo would have a little bit of a chance, but not much, because it looks like the lead is, it’s not a great lead, but it’s big enough that he should be able to win,” President Donald Trump said in the Oval Office last week.
