Donation of $65,000 from CCP businessman should disqualify Mikie Sherrill

Rep. Mikie Sherrill’s (D-NJ) acceptance of Chinese Communist Party-linked money presents a clear security threat to the United States, which should result in an immediate disqualification from New Jersey’s gubernatorial race and a public endangerment prosecution

As shown in campaign finance records, Pin Ni, a Chinese businessman with robust ties to China’s government, gave Sherrill’s gubernatorial race $60,000 and her political action committee another $5,800.

CCP MEMBER CUT CHECK TO SUPPORT ARIZONA GOVERNOR SHORTLY AFTER SHE VETOED ANTI-CHINA LEGISLATION

Ni, who leads the Wanxiang Group, a Chinese automotive and industrial powerhouse, also recently donated $14,500 to Sherill’s 2024 Congressional campaign.

Sherrill’s campaign did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment regarding her ties to the CCP executive and has so far remained publicly silent on the issue. Her refusal to address the donations has only intensified national security concerns.

Sherrill’s record in Congress suggests that contributions linked to the CCP have influenced her to prioritize the interests of her Chinese benefactors over those of the American people.

For example, earlier this year, Sherrill refused to vote on the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act, a bill to cut the flow of lethal, Chinese-manufactured drugs from pouring in over America’s borders. In 2023, she voted against the DETERRENT Act, a bill to curb the CCP’s influence over America’s higher education, and was absent for the bill’s vote when it reached the House floor again this year.

Now that she is poised to oversee an office far larger than her congressional seat, the steps she could take to advance Beijing’s interests may become exponentially more consequential.

The same CCP member who donated to Sherrill’s campaign also contributed $10,000 to the political action committee supporting Democratic Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs’s reelection. As previously reported by the Washington Examiner, Hobbs vetoed a bill in May that would have prohibited China’s military-industrial complex from supplying genetic sequencing equipment and software to Arizona’s healthcare and research institutions. She later blocked another measure that would have banned the sale of land to Chinese officials.

Similar decisions could easily follow in New Jersey if Sherrill assumed control of the state’s executive branch.

The CCP has faced severe limits on its influence in the U.S. under President Donald Trump. But if Sherrill remains in the race, New Jersey could become a CCP foothold in America, a risk the nation cannot afford to take.

The unanswered questions surrounding her campaign’s handling of donations tied to a CCP member and his continued financial support of her political activities should give voters pause.
