Conservative Republican Charlie Kirk was murdered in cold blood by an assassin’s bullet on Sep. 10 while answering at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University. Like he did so many times before, Kirk sat in a tent on a college campus, ready and raring to answer questions, listen to insults, and engage in conversation and debate with people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and political ideologies. This time, it cost him his life as suspected gunman Tyler Robinson shot Kirk dead from 200 yards away with a rifle.
But you’ll notice, there weren’t any riots in response to Kirk’s execution. There wasn’t any looting. Target stores weren’t burned down, and flat-screen televisions were not stolen from retail locations. There weren’t any 77-year-old retired police captains killed. It indicates the vast difference in humanity between the Left and the Right.
There were vigils, not violence.
The assassination left many conservatives, Republicans, and others on the Right filled with a range of emotions, from sadness to rage. Kirk was executed not for some heinous act but for merely exercising his constitutionally-protected right of freedom of speech. His words challenged the ideas of contemporary left-wing orthodoxy, making him a threat to the Left. Rather than debate him, argue with him, or have a conversation with him, a radical leftist did to Kirk what radical leftists have been doing for over a century to those they disagree with: commit violence against them. In Kirk’s case, he was murdered.
OPINION: CHARLIE KIRK’S HONORABLE LEGACY OF CIVIL DISCOURSE
Still, there were no violent responses from any of Kirk’s supporters, conservatives, Republicans, or MAGA enthusiasts. They mourned, they grieved, they cried, they hurt, but they dared not hurt others. This is even though liberals, Democrats, and others on the Left essentially normalized rioting, looting, chaos, violence, and destruction by turning a blind eye to fanatics and criminals who terrorized cities nationwide under the banners of left-wing ideals in the names of Black Lives Matter, antifa, anti-Israel protesters, and other similar groups and organizations.
Destruction was permissible so long as it aligned with the Left’s values and ideals. Democratic politicians regularly gave the terror a pass. Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden consistently justified the left-wing rage and excused the agitators who committed it. It’s hard to argue that the Left didn’t actually sanction the mayhem. Their responses would indicate they almost welcomed the ruination. And such outbursts would consistently be in response to criminals resisting arrest, compared to an innocent Samaritan such as Kirk, whose only sin was speaking his mind and engaging with those who disagreed with him.
Yet, despite Kirk’s innocence, his supporters did not revel in chaos, destruction, violence, or any of the horrible things that the Left have done, regularly does, and will have done had it been one of their political leaders who was gunned down. Left-wing acolytes become barbaric over victims who are criminals and die after becoming confrontational with police officers and resisting arrest (such as the case with Michael Brown). Imagine what their furor would be if the victim were an innocent person, such as Kirk, murdered in cold blood.
However, that’s the difference between the Right and the Left, conservatives and liberals, Republicans and Democrats. Conservatives, Republicans, MAGA, and Kirk supporters are the good guys, who believe in morality, law, order, justice, and all of the other virtues that keep society civilized. And while many left-wingers will instantly mention the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol as an example of right-wing evil, the facts show that was the exception, not the rule.
OPINION: CHARLIE KIRK WAS MURDERED FOR WINNING THE WAR OF PUBLIC PERSUASION
By and large, it is the Left who are the violent dissenters and agitators. They murder, execute, and wreak havoc in cities. The response to Kirk’s assassination is a reflection of the difference in values between those on the Right and those on the Left.
One side chooses violence, the other chooses vigils. The difference in morality between the two ideologies is not hard to acknowledge or recognize.
