Progressive Democrats infiltrate respected institutions, hollow them out, and wear them like a skin-suit to lend credibility to their anti-reality ideological goals. That is what has happened with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Tennessee law preventing doctors from initiating sex changes for children. Tennessee took the morally, legally, and scientifically correct position to ban puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and sex change surgeries for transgender children, as children cannot possibly consent to permanent procedures based on the lie that they can change their gender.
The American Academy of Pediatrics is outraged by this. The AAP released a statement saying, “The Supreme Court’s decision today does not change the science. Gender-affirming care remains evidence-based, medically necessary care that improves the health and well-being of transgender youth.” The AAP is wrong on every count. There is no proof that “gender-affirming” pseudoscience helps children in any way, and transgenderism itself defies the most basic tenets of biology.
The progressives that run the AAP are trying to use the credibility it built up over the years to push progressive ideology under the veneer of expertise. This is what the AAP did during the pandemic, giving in to pressure from teachers’ unions to walk back its support for opening schools in person. It took just 11 days for the AAP to reverse its position and work with teachers unions to make reopening schools more difficult despite evidence showing that schools were both safe and important for children during the pandemic.

Throughout the pandemic, the AAP pushed for COVID-19 vaccinations for children, despite COVID-19 not posing any serious risk to the vast majority of children. The AAP also wanted children to be forced to wear masks in schools regardless of vaccination status, despite schools not significantly contributing to the spread of the virus. The AAP similarly asserted, contrary to science, that babies and young children would not be developmentally stunted by being unable to study the faces of caregivers wearing masks.
The AAP has gone all-in on transitioning children, bucking the science even as left-wing European countries have rolled back their “affirmation” policies. Just as the American Civil Liberties Union has abandoned law and Harvard University has abandoned education in favor of progressive ideology, the AAP has abandoned medicine and its duty to help children. The AAP is now nothing more than another cog in the progressive political machine, relying on its past reputation to give weight to its anti-science, fully politicized guidance.
