Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) made a lot of sense earlier this week when she pointed out that a Democrat was introducing legislation to codify one of President Donald Trump’s executive orders. It was an observation for which she should be applauded and one that Republicans in the House should be embarrassed by.
On Wednesday, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) took to the House floor and announced his intention to introduce legislation codifying Trump’s executive order to reduce drug prices.
“I rise today to introduce as legislation President Trump’s executive order for the most favored nation status on drug pricing,” said Khanna. “My legislation will codify President Trump’s executive order, which basically says that Americans should not pay more for drugs than people in other countries and other parts of the world.”
What is going on? Why are Democrats trying to codify Trump’s executive orders, but Republicans aren’t? Furthermore, why did they allow a Democrat to sneak in and take credit for attempting to codify an executive order that could revolutionize the nation’s pharmaceutical industry?
The president’s idea is wonderful, and it’s encouraging that Khanna would support it through legislative action. Yet, given the magnitude of the potential impact of Trump’s directive, it should have been a Republican leading the initiative, not a Democrat. Republicans gained control of the House in the 2024 election to implement Trump’s platform and agenda. They weren’t elected to watch Democrats capitalize on the president’s good ideas.
It was something that Boebert emphasized earlier in the week, shortly after Trump announced the executive order.
“Our President just lowered drug prices by 80% by executive order,” Boebert posted. “It’s amazing the things that can be done when your President is beholden to no one other than the American people.”
And she is right, even if the logistics behind its actual implementation might encounter some legal challenges and require legislative finessing. The spirit behind the executive order is noble and it deserved much more attention than it received in the legacy media. And if a Democrat crossing lines to codify this directive isn’t proof enough, let Boebert’s words be.
However, Boebert didn’t stop there. She astutely noted this during an appearance on former congressman Matt Gaetz’s political talk show on One America News Network.
“I saw that Ro Khanna today filed a bill to codify President Trump’s pharmaceutical executive order to reduce drug prices. Now, if we put up a Democrat bill to codify an executive order, I will not be happy about that,” Boebert said. “I will be happy that it gets signed into law.”
After a brief exchange with Gaetz, who shared Boebert’s frustration, she remarked on how ostensibly silly it was that a Democrat did this.
“It takes Ro Khanna, a Democrat, to codify President Trump’s executive order,” Boebert added. “So, it better be a Republican bill because I see far too many Democrat bills coming up in our House majority and onto the floor. And frankly, it’s unacceptable. We need to be rolling out our legislation.”
Give Boebert thunderous applause for having the acumen to say something like this, and give her even more praise for calling it unacceptable.
TRUMP HAS SLOWED NATIONAL DEBT GROWTH BY 92%
It is now over 100 days into Trump’s second term. He has diligently worked to enact his vision of making America great again. It’s time Congress followed suit.
And if they need help finding direction or conviction, they should follow Lauren Boebert’s lead.
