Democrats are faking outrage over the Signal group chat incident.
Rep. Jimmy Gomez’s (D-CA) rant on Wednesday at a House Intelligence Committee hearing on global security threats is all the proof one needs. The California politician all but accused Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth of being drunk and posting the details of an airstrike in a Signal group chat. Gomez made this not-so-thinly-veiled suggestion while questioning CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
“The main person who was involved in this thread that a lot of people want to talk to is Secretary of Defense Hegseth, and a lot of questions were brought up regarding his drinking habits in his confirmation hearing,” Gomez said before posing arguably a ridiculous question in congressional history to Gabbard. “To your knowledge, do you know whether Pete Hegseth had been drinking before he leaked classified information?”
These aren’t the questions of a serious legislator concerned about vulnerabilities in national security. They are the words of an opportunistic political scoundrel looking to pounce on an embarrassing display of incompetence by the Trump administration. There was not the slightest bit of evidence that suggested Hegseth was inebriated when the chat happened. It was preposterous even to put forward such a thought. It was a dishonest insinuation predicated on Gomez’s desire to seek humiliation, not facts.
Consider Gomez’s question to Gabbard about drinking. Gabbard and Hegseth were not in close proximity to each other. She would have no way of knowing what Hegseth would or would not have been drinking. Gomez knew this. Everybody knew this. The only reason he asked the question was to smear Hegseth and falsely portray him as a drunk. Gomez wanted Hegseth to take a public relations hit, and this was his sole intention.
Gomez then made another bogus accusation, accusing Hegseth of drinking while speaking to the media after a NATO conference in Europe in February. Yet, there was no evidence this was true. Once again, Gomez was baselessly attacking Hegseth. His words are part of a coordinated political effort to smear Hegseth and frame him as a drunk.
RUBIO ADMITS SIGNAL GROUP CHAT DEBACLE WAS A ‘BIG MISTAKE’
He then said another lie, stating that Hegseth’s sobriety during the Signal chat was a question that was on the “tops of minds of every American.” Once again, Gomez’s words were hyperbolic, hysterical, and untrue. It was on the “tops of minds” of every Democratic political operative and spinster but definitely not on the minds of everyone.
Gomez revealed his true intentions on Wednesday. The California Democrat doesn’t really care about the Signal chat incident. He only cares about doing whatever he can to score as many political points as possible.
