Having lost the White House and being in the minority in both chambers of Congress, Democrats are leveraging their expansive network of left-wing district court judges to sabotage the implementation of President Donald Trump’s agenda.
In a single day this week, district court judges issued rulings blocking Trump’s executive order banning transgender individuals from enlisting or serving in the military, determined that dismantling the U.S. Agency for International Development by Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency likely violated the Constitution, demanded the Trump administration provide details about flights transporting alleged Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador on Saturday, and ordered the reinstatement of Department of Education grants that were cut as part of efforts to end diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Furious over the Justice Department’s “woefully insufficient” response to his request for details about the weekend flights, Washington D.C. Federal District Court Judge James Boasberg issued a scathing new order Thursday evening, outlining a fresh set of demands with strict compliance deadlines.
Upon learning of Boasberg’s order, Trump, who has largely complied with this unprecedented deluge of nationwide injunctions so far, finally reached his limit and took to his social platform, Truth Social, to urge the Supreme Court to put an end to the madness.
His lengthy message began: “Unlawful Nationwide Injunctions by Radical Left Judges could very well lead to the destruction of our Country! These people are Lunatics, who do not care, even a little bit, about the repercussions from their very dangerous and incorrect Decisions and Rulings.”
Trump rightly noted, “Lawyers endlessly search the United States for these Judges, and file lawsuits as quickly as they find them. It is then the obligation of Law abiding Agencies of Government to have these “Orders” overturned. The danger is unparalleled!”
“These Judges want to assume the Powers of the Presidency.”
Trump pointed out that “a President has to be allowed to act quickly and decisively” to keep Americans safe, which is impossible “if Radical and Highly Partisan Judges are allowed to stand in the way of JUSTICE.”
He demanded that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts “STOP NATIONWIDE INJUNCTIONS NOW, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.” If they “do not fix this toxic and unprecedented situation IMMEDIATELY, our Country is in very serious trouble!”
Trump is right. A handful of highly partisan district judges are trying to usurp the power of the presidency. Their nationwide injunctions and temporary restraining orders are a deliberate attempt to obstruct, or at least delay, Trump from exercising the authority a majority of the electorate granted to him in a free and fair election. This is an abuse of judicial power, and at the moment, Roberts is the only man in America with the means to stop it.
Will Roberts step up, or will he continue to watch from the sidelines as our once-great nation is held hostage by a group of thugs in black robes?
The answer remains unclear.
After Trump openly called for Boasberg’s impeachment in a Tuesday Truth Social post, an unlikely outcome given that it would require a supermajority vote in the Senate, Roberts responded with a tone-deaf, short-sighted statement that only escalated tensions in an already politically charged debate: “For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.”
Although impeaching any or all of the district court judges trying to exert control over the executive branch is not an ideal remedy in this situation, Roberts’s comment only served to embolden these activist judges, along with nongovernmental organizations and special interest groups exploiting them as tools to undermine Trump.
On the right, the remark was viewed as an unwarranted rebuke of Trump. Cornell University Law School Professor William Jacobson had a message for Roberts: “Do Your Job – if you want the normal appellate process to work, you have to make it work … The Supreme Court needs to do its job, and the appeals courts need to do their jobs.
“Yes, ideally we wouldn’t even be talking about impeachment. It’s a measure of last resort born of frustration that the appellate process has not been working … [Y]ou need to take action as the Supreme Court to rein in the district courts who have stepped out of their separation of powers boundaries and who have created this crisis.”
Earlier this week, the Babylon Bee parody website highlighted the current situation’s absurdity in an article titled “Federal Judge Orders Astronauts Be Returned to Space Station.” The piece was published just as two astronauts stranded on the International Space Station for 285 days were on their journey home aboard a Musk-provided SpaceX Dragon capsule.
DEMOCRATIC GOVERNORS ARE MAKING A MOCKERY OF DEMOCRACY
It began: “A district judge has issued a ruling saying Trump lacked the Constitutional authority to pick up two astronauts who have been stranded at the International Space Station for several months. SpaceX has been ordered to return the astronauts immediately.”
Amusing? Yes. But also rather sad, for what it says about where the Left has taken the country.
