Sen. Chris Murphy’s (D-CT) latest unhinged rant is yet another example of how far the Democratic Party has fallen. In a desperate attempt to smear President Donald Trump, Murphy falsely claimed that Trump “disappeared” a man named Mahmoud Khalil for opposing his political agenda.
But here’s the truth Murphy conveniently left out: Khalil isn’t an American citizen, he wasn’t protesting Trump, and he was detained under valid U.S. immigration law for supporting terrorism.
This isn’t about free speech. It’s about national security. Khalil, a foreign national who entered the United States in 2022, spent his time here harassing Jewish students, occupying buildings at Columbia University, and calling for the “total eradication of Western civilization.” And yet, instead of defending America and its values, Murphy and the Democrats are fighting to protect people such as Khalil while ignoring the innocent Americans who have suffered under their failed open-border policies or the Jewish American students targeted by people such as this radical individual.
Let’s be clear: Khalil was allowed into the U.S. under former President Joe Biden’s disastrous immigration policies. The same policies have left our borders wide open for criminals, drug traffickers, and terrorists. Since taking office, Trump has reversed course, taking swift action to restore law and order. Khalil’s deportation is just the beginning of a broader effort to clean house and protect the public.
Unlike Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris, who enabled antisemitic agitators to infiltrate our universities, Trump is standing with Jewish students, securing our borders, and enforcing the law. His administration has made it clear: if you support terrorism, you have no place in the U.S.
Murphy’s attempt to rewrite history is nothing new. He and his Democratic colleagues have a track record of prioritizing criminals over law-abiding citizens. They are quick to defend Khalil, but where was Murphy’s outrage when 22-year-old Laken Riley was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant who should never have been in the country? Where was his concern when fentanyl poured across our borders, killing thousands of young Americans, many of them Hispanic?
The Democratic Party’s obsession with protecting illegal immigrants and radical extremists is precisely why voters — especially working-class Hispanics — continue abandoning them in droves. The 2024 election saw a historic shift, with Trump winning 46% of the Hispanic vote, including 54% of Hispanic men. These voters rejected the Democrats’ radical agenda and embraced Trump’s America First policies because they work.
Trump’s leadership is already delivering results.
Illegal border crossings have plummeted by over 90% since Trump reimplemented strong enforcement measures. Biden’s reckless policies led to record-high crossings, endangering communities nationwide.
The Trump administration is aggressively removing individuals such as Khalil who pose a threat to national security and put Jewish Americans at risk. Unlike Biden, who welcomed them with open arms, Trump is putting America first.
Trump signed the Laken Riley Act, ensuring that violent, illegal immigrants are detained and removed, protecting innocent American lives. He is also taking action to stop the rise of antisemitism on college campuses, cutting funding to institutions that enable radical activists like Khalil.
Murphy and his Democratic colleagues can cry all they want, but the facts remain: Trump is making America safer. His actions reaffirm what the majority of Americans already know — strong borders, law enforcement, and national security matters.

Murphy’s lies won’t change the truth. Trump is protecting America, and Americans are standing with him.
