There is no Democrat more enthusiastic about flooding his or her own community with illegal immigrants than Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, who wants it to be known that Denver residents take a back seat to his devotion to illegal immigration.
In announcing his opposition to President-elect Donald Trump’s immigration policies, Johnston announced that he would have Denver Police officers stationed out the county line to prevent Trump’s proposed deportations and that the city also “would have 50,000 Denverites there.” He compared his hypothetical opposition protest to the Tiananmen Square protests, where Chinese citizens were murdered by the Chinese communist government while protesting for more freedom.
Johnston then admitted that he shouldn’t have said that, though he didn’t walk it back as some had suggested. (If anything, Johnston reiterated it, saying that “this is an outcome I hope we can avoid in this country,” implicitly suggesting that it was a possible outcome). But, he is still all in on illegal immigration, saying that he is willing to go to jail to keep illegal immigrants in his city and that he is “not afraid of that.”
Johnston’s bizarre commitment to illegal immigrants to the point that he would rather go to jail for them than work to make things better for Denver residents is utterly baffling. It is made all the worse when you remember that Denver suburbs are suing the city over the rapidly declining quality of life and rising budget issues resulting from 42,000 illegal immigrants swarming to Colorado. Denver has actively encouraged illegal immigrants to cross the border and, as a result, has invited members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to the state, where they are taking over apartment buildings and committing crimes.

It is politicians like Johnston who have continued to make the border crisis worse. The total unwillingness of President Joe Biden and national Democrats to make any effort to secure the border is the main culprit, but Democrats running states and cities telling illegal immigrants to flock to their cities has encouraged illegal immigrants to cross the border in droves. These Democratic cities and states end up prioritizing those illegal immigrants, protecting them from deportation, even if they have criminal records, and redirecting resources from programs that help its residents and instead help those who are in the country illegally.
Mike Johnston is making Denver and Colorado worse. He is openly telling Denver residents that he would rather sit in jail on behalf of people who have illegally entered the country than run the city he was elected by them to run. This kind of devotion to illegal immigration, above all else, is why Democratic cities and states are in decline and why politicians like Johnston need to be cast aside as soon as they hit the political stage.
