Walz more worried about tampons than student test scores

.

Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) is weird.

During a recent interview on CBS, Walz showed just how weird he really is — and this should worry every normal, sane, and rational parent in the country.

Journalist Bill Whitaker asked Walz about some of his actions during his time in office, specifically asking the vice presidential candidate about critics who suggest he is too radical and not aligned with the normal views of people in the country.

“What do you say to that criticism that rather than leading the way, you and Minnesota are actually out of step with the rest of the country?” Whitaker asked.

Walz responded with a “weird” answer about schools serving breakfast and lunch, mainly targeting former President Donald Trump. He even bragged about it with a social media post on X.

“President Trump may be referring to that our children get breakfast and lunch in school so they could learn,” Walz replied.

I don’t think so, Tim.

It is absurd and cowardly for Walz to try to insinuate school breakfasts and lunches are at the root of Walz’s radicalism. Nothing could be further from the truth. Because no one is upset over programs Walz may have implemented regarding school breakfasts and lunches. They are, however, concerned about a law he passed in 2023 that required schools in his state to provide free tampons to “all students who menstruate” between 4th and 12th grade — and rightfully so. This includes “male” students. Yet, Walz was too cowardly to mention this weird initiative during the interview.

“A school district or charter school must provide students with access to menstrual products at no charge,” reads the legislation. “The products must be available to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4 to 12 according to a plan developed by the school district. For purposes of this section, ‘menstrual products’ means pads, tampons, or other similar products used in connection with the menstrual cycle.”

Furthermore, as Walz mentioned “so they could learn” in his response to Whitaker, it should be noted that Minnesota’s children have not been learning much since Walz became governor. As he prioritized weird, radical programs like giving tampons to boys, the proficiency rate of Minnesota’s students in reading and mathematics has plummeted under Walz’s watch. As Walz pursued a social justice and radical left-wing agenda, Minnesota’s students failed to obtain basic reading and math skills that are supposed to be taught in schools.

For example, Minnesota’s most recent statewide assessments found that only 32% of fourth-grade students tested proficient in reading, and only 41% of fourth-grade students tested proficient in math. Both proficiency levels decreased from 2019, Walz’s first year in office. And while Walz was pursuing agendas to distribute tampons to elementary and middle school boys, his state’s fourth-grade students’ reading test scores fell below the national average, according to the nation’s report card.

The results were even worse for Minnesota’s eighth graders. Test results revealed that only 32% of eighth-grade students in Minnesota tested proficient in math, and only 30% of eighth-graders were proficient in reading. Again, both of these percentages were lower than in 2019.

Moreover, in 2023, the year Walz passed his tampon bill, 78 public schools in Minnesota failed to have just one student “in at least one entire grade level” proficient in reading or math on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment tests.

Walz is a failure. A former school teacher, his radical left-wing policies have coincided with Minnesota’s students being less prepared than before he was elected. He had the audacity to mention “children learning” in his response to Whitaker. Yet, since Walz became governor, it seems learning is the last thing Minnesota’s students are doing.

His arrogance in touting school breakfasts and lunch when the majority of the students in his state cannot do rudimentary math or read at grade levels is insulting. Walz’s leadership failures in education must be exposed to the entire country.
