New York’s border crisis response proves Biden’s failure

New York’s ongoing response to the border crisis is nothing short of a pathetic indictment of state and city leaders as well as the Biden administration’s failures at the border.
Gov. Kathy Hochul issued an executive order on Tuesday that would allow the state to summon up to 500 more members of the National Guard to help New York City handle an influx of illegal immigrants. New York has already deployed 1,000 National Guard members to the city. Hochul called this a “crisis situation.”
BIDEN’S BORDER CRISIS A ‘SLAP IN THE FACE’ TO CITIZENS
Mayor Eric Adams wants to put illegal immigrants up in vacant hotel rooms in nearby suburbs, because apparently his “sanctuary city” doesn’t really want them there. Adams has been complaining for nearly a year now that illegal immigrants are being sent to his city while claiming that he has “always welcomed them.”
This is all a damning indictment of the Biden administration, which has effectively opened the border to anyone who wishes to cross. But it is also an indictment of New York, New York City, and the administrations Hochul and Adams are running.
New York City has received more than 57,000 illegal immigrants since last spring. That is a lot, no question. Adams was already complaining about the strain on New York City’s resources after just under 3,000 arrivals. Meanwhile, smaller Texas border towns are being swamped by illegal immigrants and have been for years. Eagle Pass, Texas, with a population of just 30,000 people, was seeing 10,000 illegal immigrants a week.
Adams, Hochul, and other New York Democrats were standing on their soapboxes and declaring that they are a welcoming sanctuary for illegal immigrants and that those evil Republicans should stop being so xenophobic. “No human being is illegal,” we have been told while Eagle Pass and other small border communities in Texas and Arizona saw well over 100,000 border encounters every single month. Those small communities are expected to just absorb the surge while New York sanctimoniously preaches about being accepting.

The moment the governors of Texas and Arizona began busing these illegal immigrants to New York, the city declared that it couldn’t keep up. It begged President Joe Biden for help, and Hochul is now preparing to increase the National Guard’s role. If New York were to swap positions with Texas on the front lines of the border crisis, would the state or New York City even be operational by the end of the month?
Biden should not be let off the hook for the border crisis. It is his policies and his lack of enforcement that have led to this disaster. But New York Democrats and their holier-than-thou attitude have been exposed as both hypocritical and unearned. Neither the city nor the state can handle a fraction of what border outposts have been enduring for years, even as they demanded those very border towns shoulder the burden.
