Gisele Fetterman attacks the free press and women of color

One month after attacking NBC journalist Dasha Burns for doing her job, Gisele Fetterman has launched another assault on female journalists.
“The right-wing hates women,” said the wife of Pennsylvania’s senator-elect in response to a humorous segment on Fox News. “They especially hate strong women, and I think that’s what you’re seeing. … Hopefully, it’s not like this for the next young Latina or person of color or spouse who enters this space.”

Just as Fetterman previously insinuated that Burns was ableist for pointing out the obvious fact that her stroke-victim husband couldn’t exactly follow small talk, here Fetterman casts her conservative critics as specifically targeting her for being a “young Latina.”
There’s just one problem. Fetterman isn’t just attacking journalists for correctly pointing out that since her husband’s stroke, she’s sure looked happy stealing all of the spotlight. She’s responding to a Fox News segment, hosted by a black woman and featuring the tweets of two Asian American women, and insinuating that all the women involved are racist.
Because identity politics only moves in one direction, to favor the Left, the New Republic piece does not mention that Fox News host Harris Faulkner is black, nor that Townhall’s Mia Cathell, jesting that Gisele Fetterman is the actual “senator-elect,” is Asian American. (The segment also features a tweet from yours truly, a fellow Asian American woman 13 years younger than Fetterman. I noted that Fetterman cropped her husband halfway out of the picture as she posed for her “first day” in the Senate, a Freudian slip of sorts.)
Contrary to the assertions of the second lady of Pennsylvania, or as she deems herself in Dickensian form, “SLOP,” the Right loves strong women. We just happen to prefer those who aren’t famous because of whom they’re married to.

Tell me, dear reader, do you remember the name of Nikki Haley’s husband? What about the husband of Kristi Noem or Winsome Sears? No, and a major part of the reason Republicans ousted Kelly Loeffler from the Senate in the 2021 Georgia runoff election was because becoming a billionaire on the basis of marrying up isn’t a terribly noble prospect to voters evaluating politicians. Hell, one of the best things about the #GirlBoss appeal of Kamala Harris is that the only reason anyone knows her husband is because of his adoring posts about the vice president.
Fetterman’s schtick would be innocuous enough if it weren’t incumbent on attacking journalists for covering a Senate candidate struggling to string together sentences. But the senator-elect’s wife kept herself in the limelight to keep her husband out of it, and if a journalist, a woman of color no less, has the gall to point it out, Fetterman won’t hesitate to play the identity politics game.
