Breaking: The Chinese spyware app is Chinese spyware

In what may result in some shock for some people, it turns out the dancing app made by a Chinese company that loves the Chinese Communist Party may in fact be Chinese spyware.
The latest figure to raise the alarm about TikTok‘s data collection is FBI Director Christopher Wray, who told Congress that China may utilize the app to “control data collection on millions of users, or control the recommendation algorithm which could be used for influence operations if they so choose, or to control software on millions of devices.”

According to Wray, “China’s vast hacking program is the world’s largest, and they have stolen more Americans’ personal and business data than every other nation combined.” TikTok is obviously part of that program, given that its parent company had promised to “further deepen cooperation” with the CCP and legally couldn’t refuse requests to turn over data to the Chinese government, even if it wanted to.
This comes after Brendan Carr, the commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission, called for an outright ban of the app. It comes after the app has been repeatedly revealed to bypass protections put in place by the Google and Apple app stores and log users’ keystrokes. And, of course, it comes after materials reported by Forbes last month revealed that TikTok’s parent company was planning on surveilling specific American citizens, including tracking their location.
Every politician and government figure in Washington knows that TikTok is Chinese spyware. The Department of Defense had already told employees to delete the app not just from government devices, but their own personal devices. The Democratic Party relied on TikTok as an election messaging tool, and yet it urged staffers and campaigns to use separate, dedicated devices for the app so as not to compromise personal information or important files.
What has been President Joe Biden’s response to this national security concern? Inviting TikTok “celebrities” to the White House and letting them use their Chinese spyware to film fun videos to show how cool and relatable he is.

It doesn’t take being the director of the FBI to know that TikTok is a national security threat. We already knew this, thanks to years of reporting and years of government agencies and banks telling employees not to use the app. And yet politicians, particularly in the Democratic Party, are content to turn a blind eye and even use the Chinese spyware app to campaign. As a result, they have allowed China to reach its tendrils further into the lives of everyday people.
