Stop with the presidential endorsements!

The 2024 presidential election is over 18 months away, yet numerous people have already made their endorsements for president. And they have done so when expected candidates (and even endorsed candidates) haven’t even declared yet. It’s a pointless act and politically disingenuous.
Any endorsement in March 2023 will have no impact come November 2024. Moreover, it won’t even be remembered.
THE DEFINITIVE ANTI-WOKE MARCH MADNESS BRACKET
Consider one of the more recent endorsements for president, from Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX).
“The next President of the United States must be a vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course,” Roy stated in a press release. “America needs a leader who will truly defend her and empower the people against the destructive force of unrestrained government and corporate excess, profligate spending, and woke cultural indoctrination. That leader is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.”
“His style of no-nonsense government and fearless rejection of woke ‘conventional wisdom’ has demonstrated an appeal to all of us based on our shared values as Americans,” Roy added.
“When other Republicans were faltering in key races, Governor DeSantis provided a positive vision for the future with prudent, conservative action. The result was crystal clear: Republicans enjoyed sweeping, historic performances statewide,” Roy said.
Roy was passionate, intelligent, and articulate in his support for DeSantis. It could definitely be used to sway a voter’s opinion. There is just one problem — DeSantis hasn’t even declared his candidacy yet. And, while he is expected to do so, it is silly to endorse someone for president who, technically speaking, isn’t even a candidate yet.
The same goes for those who already endorsed former President Donald Trump. For example, consider Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).
“I’m proud to endorse the strongest president of my lifetime, Donald J. Trump, for a second term in 2024,” Mullin said.
“In just four years, President Trump delivered great results for the American people. He lowered taxes, secured American energy independence, protected our Second Amendment, and never backed down from the radical Left threatening our way of life. President Trump is exactly the president we need to lead this country through the tough road ahead. Not only am I proud to endorse President Trump, I’m proud to call him my friend.”
While Trump has at least already declared his candidacy, it’s still premature to endorse him, considering that not all candidates have declared and, in turn, there haven’t been any debates. Endorsing anyone this early does nothing but facilitate senseless tribalism. The GOP should hope the best overall candidate wins the nomination, and that can’t truly be known until everyone has declared and there’s been at least some debate among them.
