Democrats lecture about the potential end of democracy every time a Republican sneezes. But the party is moving further and further away from the only democracy in the Middle East.

A Gallup poll finds that just 38% of Democrats “sympathize” with Israel, compared to the 49% who sympathize with the Palestinians. That is a far cry from 2016, when 53% of Democrats backed Israel, compared to 23% with the Palestinians. It matches the rise of both the number of terrorist-sympathizing Democrats in Congress and the antisemitic left-wing protests on various college campuses.

WHY THE WEST BANK IS IN CHAOS

What exactly it means is open to interpretation. Do Democrats “sympathize” with the Palestinians because they are governed by terrorist groups that obsessively hate Israel and neglect their own citizens, using them as human shields to help their propaganda campaigns? Do they sympathize with their indiscriminate firing of missiles at Israeli civilian populations? Surely Democrats have to agree at least that Palestinians deserve better leadership?

Democratic representatives in Congress paint a different picture, though. Between Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), among others, these new Democrats paint Israel as an evil country. They accuse Israel of terrorism for retaliating after Palestinians launch missiles at Israeli schools and call Israel’s government an “apartheid government.”

The “Squad” that has continued to push the party to the left even opposes Israel’s Iron Dome, a purely defensive anti-missile system that protects Israeli civilians from the missiles launched by Palestinian terrorists. They don’t find it fair that Israel is able to defend itself from Palestinian aggression.

Those poor Palestinian terrorists, unable to bomb civilians with impunity! Is that who the Democrats wish to “sympathize” with?

While Democrats pillory any Republican who they deem to be insufficiently concerned about Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the party is moving closer and closer to sympathizing with the aggressors in the Middle East, both among politicians and the rank-and-file voters. Their self-righteous speeches about democracy evidently don’t extend to every democracy that is under assault from authoritarians.
