Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) hasn’t announced he is running for president yet. But judging by Donald Trump’s recent statements, he is living rent-free in the former president’s head.
In just the last week, Trump has called DeSantis “disloyal” and a “RINO globalist” and has falsely claimed that DeSantis “closed quickly down Florida and even its beaches.”
ANOTHER POLL, ANOTHER DESANTIS WIN, ANOTHER TRUMP LOSS
Without bothering to name Trump, DeSantis fired back on Tuesday, torching Trump for being a losing loser who loses.
“I roll out of bed. I have people attacking me from all angles. It’s been happening for many, many years,” the Republican governor said at a press conference after someone asked about Trump’s attacks.
“The good thing is that the people are able to render a judgment on that, whether they reelect you or not. And I’m happy to say, you know, in my case, not only did we win reelection. We won with the highest percentage of the vote that any Republican governor candidate has had in the history of the state of Florida,” DeSantis continued.
Trump, of course, did not win reelection, losing to President Joe Biden by more than 7 million votes.
Trump may be winning in some national polls where Republican primary voters are given a crowded field to choose from. But when the choice is narrowed down to Trump and DeSantis, DeSantis consistently wins.
And the results are even worse for Trump in the states that go first in the nominating process: DeSantis has a commanding lead in New Hampshire, Iowa, and South Carolina.
DeSantis may end up deciding not to run, but his tough but measured response to Trump’s latest round of attacks shows he has both the temperament and the talent to fight back successfully.
