Former President Donald Trump advertised a “big political speech” Thursday in a post on his social media platform, and then … nothing really happened.

Judicial Watch did issue a press release announcing that Trump was delivering the keynote address to the conservative group’s annual roundtable. But no content from the event itself seems to have been produced.

IT’S OFFICIAL: TRUMP’S TAX CUTS PAID FOR THEMSELVES

No press reports. No video. No audio. No excerpts of prepared remarks. Not even an interview with an attendee before or after the event.

It’s almost as if Trump gave a “big political speech” and no one cared.

Now there may be some good reasons Judicial Watch would want to keep parts of Trump’s appearance private. No one would expect them to release a list of attendees or provide video of the entire event. But after Trump previewed the evening as “a big political speech,” the complete radio silence seems odd. Especially for a campaign that is trying to fight the perception that it is off to a bad start.

Maybe Trump is wisely biding his time and meticulously building voter contact lists so that, when he really does start hosting huge rallies again, his campaign can maximize their impact.

But maybe Trump’s heart isn’t really in it this time around. Maybe he just wants to sell more collectible trading cards and cash in on his political notoriety.

This week’s “big political” dud suggests the second is more likely.
