Biden’s promise of transparency was always hollow

The Biden administration promised on its very first day that it would “bring transparency and truth back to the government.” As Biden’s classified document scandal continues to worsen, that transparency has apparently taken a back seat.
The second batch of classified documents found in President Joe Biden’s personal possession was in the garage of his Delaware home. Obviously, that garage is not exactly a safe, secure location for classified documents, and the documents were from his time as vice president, meaning they had been there for at least five years.
DOCUMENTS SCANDAL RAISES TRANSPARENCY QUESTIONS AT BIDEN’S RESIDENCE, THINK TANK
Naturally, there are questions about who could have had access to the house and those documents. Unsurprisingly, Hunter Biden is one such person. The president’s son has found himself under scrutiny for many things, including his financial ties to China, ethically dubious dealings in Ukraine, substance abuse issues, and illegal possession of a firearm. He was also living in the house when the documents were there.
When journalists wanted to know if the White House could provide visitor logs to see who had visited the Delaware home, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre deflected. “Let’s not forget what we did here in this White House,” Jean-Pierre said. “We instituted that the last administration got rid of, which is making sure that there was a White House log, extensive White House log.”
Do you feel the transparency yet?
The White House ultimately informed reporters that it did not have a visitor log for Biden’s Delaware home where classified documents were sitting in the garage. Even if there was nothing scandalous in Biden’s garage, Jean-Pierre’s boast is empty: Biden has spent more than one-fourth of his presidency in Delaware. That’s an “extensive” amount of time away from the extensive White House log.
To paraphrase Biden himself, “how could anyone be that irresponsible?”
The Biden administration that promised transparency just moments after taking office never cared about transparency. During the campaign, Biden hid from reporters, who accommodated him because they wanted to see him win. That vanishing act continued into his presidency.

And, while the administration promised to be transparent and truthful “even when it’s hard to hear,” that hasn’t been true either. The administration was happy to make a grand spectacle over former President Donald Trump’s own classified document scandal right before the midterm elections, and yet Biden’s team learned about his own classified documents days before the midterm elections. Naturally, they hid the problem for two months.
Transparency was never going to be a priority for Biden. He made that clear during the campaign. Anyone who pretended that he ever prioritized truth and transparency over partisan politics was either dishonest or deluding themselves. He was never a paragon of public service; he is a continuation of the same old corrupt, partisan political landscape he promised he was running to replace.
