A teenage girl became emotional last week after recalling seeing a naked biological man, who identifies as a transgender woman, while she was showering in her local YMCA’s women’s locker room.

Rebecca Phillips, who is 17 years old, explained to the Santee City Council in California, “As I was showering after my workout, I saw a naked male in the women’s locker room.” She claimed she was “terrified” and retreated to hide behind the shower curtain.

Phillips further held back tears describing her younger sister, who is 5 years old, that she brings to the location during the summer.

“The locker room was supposed to be her safe haven to gossip with her friends and shower and change,” she explained.

“As long as you are not a red flag on Megan’s Law — California sex offender registry — a grown male can shower alongside a teenage girl at your YMCA location here in Santee,” she said. “I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong when I talked to people at the YMCA.”

“The indecent exposure of a male to a female minor was an inconvenience to them,” Phillips said of the Santee YMCA.

“Could you knowingly send an underage girl into a room where there was a naked male and say that she was not in danger, that she was safe, or more importantly, that this was right?” she posed to attendees. Per Phillips, a representative for the YMCA location had assured Phillips’s father that she was in no danger at the time she was naked in a locker room alongside a biological male.

The Cameron Family YMCA in Santee, California, did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.

In a statement given to a local outlet, the YMCA of San Diego said, “We are aware of a situation involving two members in the locker room of the Santee YMCA earlier this month.”

“As part of this commitment to ensure all individuals feel comfortable, we are reviewing lock[er] room floorplans across all facilities within our association. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to additional privacy if desired and needed,” it read.
