As a movement to vote for Democratic candidates went viral on Twitter, users shone a light on voters who overcame physical obstacles to guilt more people to the polls.
Twitter users had the #VoteBlueToday hashtag trending as the No. 5 topic at one point on Tuesday. A similar #BlueTsunami2022 hashtag would go on to be used in over 33,000 tweets. Some used the hashtags in their documentation of elderly and injured voters arriving at polling places nationwide.
“This is my mother, Helen. She is 83 and has a broken bone in her right leg, but she voted today,” North Carolina’s former Mills River Mayor Pro Tem Brian Caskey tweeted. “If she can vote, so can you.”
