CNN shake-up: Network announces big changes to daily programming

CNN revealed in a press release Wednesday that big changes are coming to its daily programming.
One of the most notable changes, according to a spokesperson for the network, is that the anchors will not spend much time sitting behind desks. Instead, they will be moving around the studios and utilizing the entirety of the space. This is meant to allow “innovative use of technology to offer context.”
CNN Chairman and CEO Chris Licht said, “CNN’s Dayside audience is highly influential, with executives and leaders watching from their offices around the country as the day’s news unfolds.”

This new format will provide for “more authentic” anchors and will put CNN “in a position of strength going into the evening and primetime hours.”
Daytime programming on the channel will be split into two three-hour periods, one filming in New York City and the other in Washington, D.C.
John Berman, Kate Bolduan, and Sara Sidner will anchor the first program from 9 a.m. to noon, while Brianna Keilar, Boris Sanchez, and Jim Sciutto take charge of the programming between the hours of 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Inside Politics with John King will keep its noon slot.

Anchors currently on CNN Newsroom will be transitioning to new roles within the network.
CNN did not say exactly when the changes will go into effect but that it will be within the coming months.
As a part of Licht’s goal of revamping CNN, he announced layoffs in November, which were primarily for paid contributors.
